April 20th surgery and stopped losing
Hi my name is Regina I had my surgery on April 20, 2004 Im down 57 pounds but in the last three weeks I have not lost a thing . I feel so terrible I don't think Im losing my weight as fast as everyone else and then for it to stop all together really stinks. I wish there was something I can do. I try not to eat too much because unfortunately for me I don't have a problem eating anything I can eat everything and anything just smaller portions my fear is that if I couldn't control myself before what is going to change my behavior now. I was hoping that after I had the surgery I would be repulsed by all food especially sweets and junk food but Im not I can eat sugar ,bread, pizza, all meats but I have to say that last night I was eating low carb corn chips and I made a cheese dip with chicken and salsa. I then ate cookies two and a half and I was sick all night and Im happy I was because I will not try to eat that many sweets again. I can get away with little pieces but I over did it. I just wanted to ask if anyone knew if this plateau is normal and how long does a plateau last. Please someone tell me it will be over soon. thanks so much.

Hi Regina, I had surgury on April 19th, so we are one day apart. I have lost 63 lbs, so we have lost about the same....I would bet you are on a plateau....I had a 4 week long plateau at about 2 months...it was very frustrating and I convinced myself, a little bit more each day, that the surgury wasn't working etc.
Please take a step back from today and look back over the last 3 months...WOW!!!! You have lost almost 60 lbs!!! HOLY MOLY!!!
I too can eat anything....I was hoping for a bit more "problems" in that department. I have not had any sugar yet. There are some excellent sugar free cookies, etc. No reason to eat sugar!! But I know, it tastes so good!!
I will be thinking about you! If I understand, you are feeling depressed because you ate sugar and you are on a plateau....
I bet the weight will start coming off again soon....is eating the sugar/junk perhaps making you tired and depressed a bit? I know if I eat anything really heavy I feel heavy....and very tired.
Not sure which part of the world you call home, but perhaps a nice long walk today to help clean you mind might help...I know it doesn't fix anythng, but boy it sure does help me get my mind right. Sometimes I don't want to do it....but I must be a slow learner, because I am always shocked at how much better I feel after I get a little fresh air.
Consider yourself hugged real tight....I will think of you today!!

Hi Rae you were right I was at a plateau but Im happy to say I started losing again Im down another 2 pounds and Im so happy. I was supposed to have my surgery on the 19th of April but they changed it they first wanted to give me June 1, but I flipped out and thank God I did because they gave me the next day which was fine with me. I spent my birthday in the hospital my birthday is on the 21 I don't know of any better gift to give myself how about you? You are doing really great you must be so happy. I wish you much continued success. Thanks for right me back take care. Regina
Hi Regina,
First off, quit beating yourself up. Of course you are going to test the tool, that's normal. You got the information that you really didn't want - that you don't dump, but you got the information that you did want - that you can't eat as much as you used to. ~~HUGS FOR YOU~~
Second, to blast a plateau you know the drill: Up the amount of water you're drinking, Up the amount of exercise you're getting, Up the amount of protien your eating.
Third, it's not really a plateau if you aren't following the rules of the pouch. Don't beat yourself over it, just start back in doing what you know you're supposed to. You CAN do this! We're stronger than any addiction to food, and hey even if we aren't. . . the pouch is!
With all my best wishes that you'll be feeling better and losing like a champ soon,
~Lara
Hi Lara thank you for writing me back I was at a Plateau. But my weight started going down again. My doctor is not what you would call you average doctor he has his patients on regular food at four weeks he tells you to try something new everyday until you find out what you can take and what you can't I have to say I can eat most foods unfortunately but I don't understand what you mean about being on program I don't have a program can you help me out and tell me about this program? Thank you take care . Regina
Hi Regina - I had my surgery on April 20th as well - I have lost 51 pounds - I didn't want to post because I felt like I have been doing everything wrong and very depressed because I am loosing so slow. I can eat anything I want and do. And I am worried that I can eat too much - I am still averaging 1100-1300 calories a day. I have gained 3 pounds in the last seven days and am very worried that I am failing. I have not been exercising so - I have vowed to start again and did on Tuesday. I do know that I have seen many people post about plateau's and it must be normal.

Hi Toni you had a DS don't you worry your weight will all come off it's probably jus****er weight . Oh and just so you know DSers can eat anything and still lose weight that is the beauty of the DS I wanted to go with the DS but there where a few thing I didn't agree with that is why I went with RNY by-pass. But don't you worry you are going to do just fine I have a friend who just had his done in July and he is eating M&M's and not having a problem them or with any food and he is rubbing it in all the time I might just have to slap him if he doesn't stop LOL. I know you going to have continued success so Im not even going to tell you I hope you have continued success because I know you are. Take care Toni let me know how your doing. Regina
