7 WEEK PLATEAU AND COUNTING!!!!

I'm happy to see all you others who had surgery around the same time as me, break your pleateau. Unfortunately, mine is still going strong. I've been back on fluid pills for over a month now and I rarely do over 800 cals a day and still nothing. To make matters worse, my husband had to take me to the emergency room late Thursday night because I was in excruciating pain that wouldn't ease up, even with percocet. After being examined and MRI'd, it was determined my kidney is enlarged and the pain was and is emminating from there. They can't figure out what's causing the pain. I was admitted and my surgeon summoned. Now, he's blaming my kidneys for me not losing anymore weight. Earlier last week it was my fluid pills not working good enough and me eating too much (you see above what my daily intake usually is and it consists mostly of protein and a few veges!!!) or I wasn't exercising enough (though my exercise has doubled since pre-surgery). To make a long story short, they finally got the pain under control many hours later, called in a heart specialist and a urologist to look at my tests and after they couldn't figure out the problem either, I was sent home. Later, the pain returned but I've been able to control it with the percocet. So far it hasn't been as bad as it was Thursday night. I now have to go see a cardiologist and urologist. I want all to know there are negatives to this surgery also. It's not all a bed of roses!!!

Hi Sorry youre going thru such a mess right now, i too had problems with kidneys. Actually had 2 UTI's and passed a kidney stone, all since surgery on 4/7!! it is true however that when you have trouble with kidneys that you dont tend to lose weight. once i passed the kidney stone i lost 7 lbs, after a 3 week plateau! I hope they figure out whats going on soon and that you start to feel better quick!! Lots of luck! ~Kim

If you aren't getting in enough water, but are taking all your calcium, you might be giving yourself kidney stones. My nutritionist warned me. Good reminder. . .get your calcium in, but get your water in too! ~Lara

Honestly, I haven't been getting in any calcium except from the little bit of dairy I get in daily (i.e. slice of cheese with egg, milk to thin out cream soups, yogurt, lactaid with protein drinks). Not able to deal with the Viactiv taste and I have some all natural capsules, but they are so huge, it's difficult to swallow them. I still have difficulty swallowing liquids by themselves still!
