Hi: I am 8 weeks out had my surgery 4/19/2004 and lost 37lbs as of June 22, 2004. I thought something was wrong with me. However my other weight loss friends have told me when they checked their profile that I was within a couple of pounds of their 8 week goal. I couldn't get the protein and water in for a while but I am doing better. Keep in touch

I'm right with you, Lea. Almost exact in the numbers. I'm down 44 total today. 34 since surgery. I'm a little confused because my doctor's scale is different from mine. But the point about the water loss is what I've been thinking. We have to be careful about comparisons. I'm older and quite short so both slow down my loss. I'm just happy it's going down. Ruth

Kathryn, I too, am a slow loser. I had RNY on 4/1/04 and have lost 45 lbs. You are not alone! We just all do not lose fast. I have spent a few months post-op being upset that I was losing so slow. Now I am just trying to be satisfied with the fact that I am steadily losing and loving the way I feel!!!!!!! Kelly

I am doing about the same. had open RNY on 4/27 and have lost 35 pounds. It's hard to not get discouraged when i read the posts of some that lose 40 lbs the first month. So it is encouraging to read all the replies of those that are doing about the same. The important thing is that we are losing. I actually put my scale away and only plan to weight twice a month. On the 27th of each month because it will be my month anniversay and around the 12th because i joined Curves on the 12th and they weigh you there each month. Because i don't want it to become a focus on the numbers. As long as i'm eating what i should--getting my protein and water--and exercising I WILL lose weight. We all will, at our own rates.

I have been asking myself the same question. I had my surgery 4/19/04 and am feeling like it never happened except for an occasional itchy scar. I have lost 37 lbs so far. I am thrilled with that but expected so much more. I hate how concerned I am becomming with how much I eat. I tend to be a perfectionist and atleast for me no matter how I am doing I feel like I should have done better. Somedays I feel bad because I have not gotten all the protien suggested in and then other days I worry I am consuming too many calories. On the 4th of July I went to a picnic and had a chicken breast plain and 3 small servings of this wonderful broccoli salad. I then felt terrible because I shouldn't have permitted myself to have 3 servings of the salad when what I did do well was not eat the potato salad, beans, brownies, cookies, pie, ice cream or alcohol. I'm curious, How much are you guys eating and do you ever get sick, cause I don't. Thanks for sharing. It's good to know I'm not alone. Lisa

Hi Kathryn, I had surgery April the 26th, and I lost very fast at first. I have lasix which pulls water off, but I only use it when I see that my feet are swollen. My weight fluctuates about ten pounds. I did pick up a very bad habit and that was eating salsa and chips. The salsa is homemade with no sugar or salt, but the chips were wasted carbs. I still can't eat any meat including tuna. I was eating saltines too, and I gave them up also. I have a calcium spur that is keeping me from walking, but I am seeing a podiatrist. My weight loss has stopped. I agree with some things others have said, I started out at 330 and lost to around 320 before surgery I am now down to 265 which makes it about 55 lbs......sometimes I have been known to say I have lost around 60lbs which is stretching the truth a little. I think people stretch the truth when they are trying, but nothing is happening; so people won't think they are a failure, but here we can all be honest with each other. I also noticed that I wasn't eating 5 times a day, but doing good to eat twice a day; so I was only hurting myself. Maybe the scales will move for the both of us. Honest Brenda from Texas,
