Hi there, Tracy-- I, too, am having trouble getting in everything. My nutritionist says that we shouldn't be drinking the high-protein drinks like Nectar after that first couple weeks because of the high number of calories in them. I'd love to do that--if you're doctor says it's cool, I'd go for it! I've tried bottled water with lemon juice added and canned Diet Lemon Tea from Kroger (grocery store), which make it a little easier--but it's mostly the timing! I can't drink anything for 30 minutes before and 30 minutes after I eat. I space it off for a couple hours, and I'm behind on my whole schedule. I find myself having to choose if I'm going to eat or drink--and which is more important to get in by the end of the day. I usually get in about 40oz of water a day, and 60-65 g protein. Just barely! I'm eating or drinking until about 10:30pm each night. Good luck in fixing this! Erin in Antioch, TN

Hi Tracy, We are surgery buddies. I haven't advanced to salads or whole grain...just because I have enough trouble trying to get the protein in. Fortunately for me, I haven't had any problems with any meat (chicken, ground beef, shrimp, fish, or beef jerky) so far, but once I get my 2-3oz of meat in I am pretty full. Occasionally I have some mashed potatoes or rice, but that is pretty rare. Even with eating mostly meats I was not getting enough protein, but my doctor OK'd it on Monday for me to add back in protein shakes since I was only averaging 47g of protein with out it. Water is still a bit tough...I keep a full bottle in front of me on my desk, a full cup (20oz) next to me when I watch TV and since I have a 45min drive to work I always start with a fresh bottle of water coming and going. Still I sometimes run short, but I try to make it up with Crystal Light (Lemonade) I love the stuff and can drink it down pretty fast. I also drink everything ICE COLD...hey, I live in the desert a nice day is 102...my refridgerator even has an ice maker with a crush ice mode. So you are not alone...we are here with you.

Hi Tracy. I'm finding it hard to get enough h2o. I have put myself on a schedule which really helps. I also use GNC'*****h flavored, liquid protien in my water. Its only 90 calories and gives 18grams of protien. I have a 33 oz water bottle, and I fill that up three times a day. Then there is no question if I'm getting enough You can get the protien on gnc's website...I also add splenda to the mix to sweeten it up. Take care, Rachel

Rachel, Does it taste good with the liquid protein? I could certainly use the protein boost. I've tried all the nectars etc.. and cannot really stomach any of them.

Hi Donna. I can't stomach the thick shakes (though I'll drink one in a pinch). The liquid protien is only good if I also add splenda to sweeten. Then its a light, refreshing drink. Or I add the protien to Propel water. Hope that helps! Rachel

Im doing ok getting my liquids in, but not good at all with my proteins. I try to get in all the meat alternates I can and a protein drink here and there. Im not a big fan of them, so I have to be in the mood. Also, after having low iron a few times when trying to give blood, they asked me if I ate a lot of ice....which I craved. When I said yes, they said that eating ice will make your iron low. She said it was a cycle, you eat ice, your iron drops and makes you crave more ice. I know it sounds really weird, but thats what I was told. I weaned myself off the ice and my iron was fine. Just thought Id pass that along.

I've started using the Nectar drinks from bariatriceating.com, I make a huge glass of it, or a water bottle, with tons of ice and drink all day. It tastes like Crystal Light and can even be mixed with it to get different flavors. One scoop has 0 carbs, 0 fat, 23 protein and 90 calories. So 2 scoops with some crystal lite in a water bottle will give you ~1/2 the days protein and lots of water--easy. Oh--they are also on sale right now!! http://store.bariatriceating.com/syntraxnectar.html Good luck, Deborah
