4/14 - Slow Loser??
I'd like to hear from 4/14'ers. I'm 5'5 and was 261 at surgery. (I started at 272 at my initial consult) I'm down to 219, but feel like I'm in slow motion. I seem to take one step forward and two back with my weight. I gain a lb and then lose it again and this goes on forever..... I seem to be able to eat most anything I've tried... Always do protein first and try and get all my liquids in. Never eat & drink together. I'm also doing Curves 3 x/wk and water aerobics 2 x/wk. I'm pretty active otherwise also. My dr.'s goal is 150, but mine is 135...
How is everyone else from this date doing? I feel like this is reallllllyyyyy sllllooowww...
Jane
I've lost a total (including 10 pre-surgery) of 45 lbs. and my surgery was only 1 week before yours.
Give yourself a break. We're doing great!!! When was the last time you went on a diet and lost this much this fast? You are doing all the right things and your weight IS coming off!
You should be patting yourself on the back , not beating yourself up! I'm proud of you, girl!!
We're almost sisters...hahahaha...I'm also 5'5" and started at 272. Ick, I didn't like that. I'm now at 227, so your really doing even better than I am, and I think I'm doing pretty good. I, like you, struggle with 2 down, 1 up, etc. and I exercise quite often too.
I think it may be just the way it's going to be. I've noticed a definate pattern. I'll stay the same or bounce up and down a pound or two and then after about 5-7 days, boom, I'll lose 3 or 4 pounds, sometimes only 1 or 2 but I still lose. Then I bounce again for another week or so and then we go again. Anyway, I really don't want to see 230 again, so I'm determined not to bounce that high again. I want to get into the "teens" or lower by July 4th.
Good Luck, and your doing great!!!

First off, I think you are doing wonderful! Remember that exercising, you are building lean muscle which weighs more than fat. I had mine on 4/16 and have lost 60 lbs as of yesterday, but the one thing I have noticed, *as gross as this sounds*, try to weigh yourself after you have "used the bathroom." I don't go the same as preop, less freq, but it is a significant diff in the scale.
Unless my math is wrong you have lost 42 pounds so far...that is great!! I had surgery on April 1st and have lost 59 pounds so you are right on track with me and I am told I am losing like I should. We also weighed around the same on surgery day so our progress won't be quite as fast as someone who has more to lose. I weigh myself once a week and some weeks I don't see a change but the next week I am quite surprised to see I have lost 4 to 6 pounds.
Keep up the exercise and good eating and it will come off.
Good Luck

Hi Jane,
My surgery was 4/9. I started out at 299 and I'm only at 267. I'm hoping I'm going to lose at a steady pace. I started at 367 when I went for my first consult. I lost weight so I could have the lap procedure. I had open anyway. I've lost 100lbs. in a year but only 32 since my surgery. But as far as my weight loss I'm concerned because everyone has lost much more than me. I think your doing great! Just keep doing what your doing. I guess your metabolism has to catch up with you! I use to walk every morning but I just got a job where I leave before 6am and sometimes don't get home til 8-10pm. I SIT ALL DAY! Hardly any walking. That has me really concerned since my weight loss is so slow. You can email me and we can talk more. Ok?
Hugs,

My surgery was 4/15. I've lost 61 as of today, but I was 340 to start, and I think the more you have to loose the faster it comes off in the beginning. Also, if you are getting your protien in and exercising you are building muscle mass which weighs more. Try measuring, you should be loosing inches. I only weigh once a week, as I noticed any more frequent drives me crazy. I think you are doing great, especially with your exercise which I need to do more of! Keep up the good work. You'll be under 200 before you know it!

Hi Jane! We are surgery sisters! I had surgery on 4/14 too!
First of all, congrats on your weight loss! You are doing GREAT.....Just give it some time and the weight will continue to fall off.
I'm down 55 lbs as of today, but my starting weight was 430 lbs, which is considerably heavier than your starting weight. I am feeling better than I have in 20 years and I'm able to go shopping without having to sit down every 10 minutes due to severe back pain. I have ALOT of weight to lose....over 250 lbs......and I know it is not just going to fall off over night, so I am going to have to learn to be patient, and to continue to follow doctor's orders. Thru the support of the people on this site and my family.......hopefully in a year or so, I'll be a much happier, thinner, healthier person!
