hey everyone, i'm 9wks out and i'm totally confused . some say it's ok to snack and some say we shouldn't snack. well, my dr. said it was ok to have a small snack of a bout 150 in calories between meals, but then i hear so many people say how it's not good b/c it promotes weight gain especially the further out you are. what do you guys think ? is there anyone that is still losing weight while reasonably snacking? i know that i am losing but sometimes all the information on the various boards get me questioning am i doing the right thing. anywhoo, i just need some feed back, so please talk to me. i thank everyone in advance. God bless. Moneice

My Dr. and nutritionist told me to have a couple of snacks. Also, I'm starving if I don't eat a snack. all the weight loss material I've every read said people who eat more often throughout the day loose more weight. As long as it's a sensible snack, (I've been eating string cheese or fruit) and if you feel hungry, then I would think it's fine. Listen to you Dr. Dianne

WHEN I WAS DISCHARGED FROM THE HOSPITAL I WAS GIVEN SAMPLE MENUS I COULD FOLLOW. I'M TOO HAVE AT LEAST 3 SNACKS PER DAY OF THINGS LIKE PEANUTS, CHEESE, 3 TABLESPOONS OF COOKED NOODLES W/ CHEESE MELTED ON TOP, TOAST WITH FAT FREE BUTTER, OR 4 CRACKERS WITH CHEESE, OR A BOILED EGG. THESE ARE THE TYPE OF LOW CAL SNACKS MY DR TOLD ME I COULD EAT. I HOPE THIS HELPS U OUT A LITTLE

I think you should stick to your Dr.s advice. Your Dr. knows what has been successful for his/her patients. Be careful not to second guess yourself because someone elses doc told them something different. Stick with what works. Good luck

Hi. I have heard snacks are ok, but I have also heard snacks are not ok. Ugghh. I have been searching the web for info on the bariatric diet. Here is a link I found. Seemed to be based on studies (but not sure how intense) and it says no snacking and gives very valid reasons and ways to avoid hunger. http://gastricbypass.netfirms.com/understandingsmallgastricpouch.htm Let me know what you think.

Moneice, I read the article in the link above about a week after I had surgery. I was trying to make some decisions as to how I was going to approach my weight loss "plan". The article was excellent and gave me some great ideas. My doctor's office suggests 4 meals a day the first six months, all small of course. I'm also allowed to have 1 or 2 snacks. Other than just eating a lot in general one of my big problems before surgery was snacking. I decided that I might be allowed to do it, but it wasn't good for me because of my problem with it in the past. I'm trying to use this "honeymoon period" when we lose weight easily and aren't hungry to help change my bad habits. I'm not eating any fast foods, I'm not eating any white carbs (potatoes, pasta, bread, chips, etc.), I'm not eating any sugar products, and I'm not snacking. That's because if I don't get rid of this problem now I'm afraid that once I'm at goal I'll start eating those things again and eating between meals again and start gaining the weight back. I'm terrified of that happening. So there's my 2 cents, for what it's worth. Good luck in your decision. Oh by the way, sometimes one of my 4 meals is just string cheese and a small piece of fruit, which some people consider a snack. LOL.
