Help!! Problems with food

OK, So I spent over a month in the hospital, I was one of the complicated ones. I saw all your posts about what you are eating for breakfast, snacks and lunch and so on. I am almost 6 weeks out now (Surgery on 4-16-04) and I am tolerating foods very well. When I started eating solids suchs as the meats and so on, I felt so much better! But I can not seem to want to eat in the mornings. In the mornings around breakfast time, I just do not want to eat. I am usually thirsty, so I drink a little bit, but as for food?? Forget it! Just the thought of eating breakfast makes me nauseated! I am usually pretty good around lunch and can eat and keep my lunch down whatever it may be. So what do I do? I know I am not intaking enough foods, although I make sure I intake enough water (liquids) to keep from going dehydrated (as I had been in the past) So my question is -- what do I do? I have no desire for food in the morning. When I was in the hospital, I asked my Dr. - I said- Hey, I am just not hungry, he said if you're not hungry then don't eat!! I wonder if that still applies?? Hmm... Maybe I should ask him. The other issue is the protein shakes. I have some pretty goods ones now-- but does anyone else just not wanna drink them? I try, but jeez! I feel like I fall so short especially since I do not eat that first meal and it sort of throws everything off ya know? I try to eat foods high in protein and some veggies to try and get my nutrients in-- but any help you guys and gals can give me-- I would appreciate! Thanks a million! Tamara

I feel the same way in the morning. I usually drink Nectar's Roadside Lemonade protein drink. I love it. It's made with water. A couple hours later I feel better. I usually then have a 4 oz low carb yogurt. Today my stomach was upset and any time I tried to drink water I hurt and gurgled. The lemonade went down great. You can get it at bariatriceating.com It is zero carbs and 23 grams of protein. I am sorry to hear about your complications but glad you are doing better. Alison

I have the same problem in the morning....I LOVE Nectar's fuzzy naval....light and refreshing and it has protein....but nothing heavy. I too am always thirsty in the morning, but can't face face. But Nectar is my answer. BTW, I tried the Nectar Very Berry Cherry (or something close) and it was HORRIBLE. I am not a lemonade fan, but lots of folks have recommended the Roadside Lemonade flavor. good luck, RAE

Hi Tamara, I know how you feel about b-fast. I'm not hungry at all when I get up and I almost feel like I want to take advantage of the feeling by not eating. But a few of my friends got blasted at our last support meetings for not eating bfast. The doc says it is so crucial to weightloss. Have you purchased any flavorless protien? You may want to add it to decaf coffee or tea in the morning. Hope that helps. Rachel

Rachel, I don't want to eat breakfast very often either. When I feel like that, I do the protein drink instead. I have heard something called banana scream is good, but my personal fav is called precision engineered whey protein (choc flav) from vitamin world. You only have to mix it with 1/4 to 1/3 cup liquid, so there isn't a lot to drink, but you still get 17g from the mix. I mix it with a scoop of carb options vanilla ice cream and 1/4 cup of milk. It tastes like those frozen treats from Wendys. Good luck Donna

I am exactly the same way in the morning so I don't eat I just have a SF carnation instant breakfast...whether I want it or not I force myself to drink it. As for the protein shakes I have to force them in as well...never thought it would be so hard to eat and drink...not complaining though...better than being hungry any day. Lois
