How much protien are you getting in per day?

I am currently getting in about 40gms of protein per day,but I just noticed that the info from my dietician recommends60gms/day for women. How much protein is everyone else out there getting in daily? I am 16 days post op and have lost 20 lbs. I have a hard time drinking water, but found minute maid light drinks to be fabulous. They are only 5 calories/can.

Hey... I am averaging around 70 grams of protein a day... ie.. one scrambled egg with cheddar cheese for B'fast... 10 grams... 3oz of tuna for lunch .. 21 grams... for lunch... One Protein drink in afternoon.. 18 grams... 3 oz of chicken breast for dinner 21 grams...

Hi Maureen~ I am getting 50-60 on a bad day and 80-100 on a good day. The good days usually include 2 protein shakes as opposed to one. I wasn't able to drink plain water until about 2.5 weeks. Right now my favorite thing to drink is diet Arizona Iced Green Tea with Splenda. I buy it by the gallon! Yum! Angela

I've been making an effort in getting 60g in /day. Not easy. I'm still on the full liquids. Protein drinks, smoothies, and powder to supplement the fluids.

I am supposed to be getting 75 grams protein per day. Somedays I hit it, others I go over, and occasionally, I don't quite make it. On the water issue, I could NOT drink plain water for about the first 2 weeks....also, I found my system tolerated water from different sources like different products. All bottled water did not sit the same on my stomach. Very odd, but now I can drink ANY water and no problems. RAE

My doctor wasnt real specific during the pureed diet about protein, she just said to try and get some in, but since moving to diet advancement she says to shoot for 60 gms a day but never less than 40. I try to fall inbetween there somewhere. As far as water goes i wasnt doing well getting all that in, and ended up with a urinary tract infection because of it... so definately work on the fluids, right now i water down the crystal light pink lemonade and that's working well. I'll be on antibiotics for a week for the UTI, but already feeling better... so it's REAL important.. i can attest to that first hand!! after a 2 week stall the scale suddenly moved another 5 lbs this morning!! YAY!!!!! sounds to me like you are doing great! ~Kim

I am getting between 66 and 75g per day. I start full liquids tomorrow, so right now I am still having three protein shakes a day. I am not having a problem with water, but have Crystal Light mixed up just for an occasional change.

I have been getting about 60-80 g protein..per protein shakes..I am still on a full liquid diet too

I'm getting in around 50 per day. Saw the nutritionist today and she wants between 60-70. She also wants me to double my calories.... oh my... never been told to do that before. Currently hitting about 600 a day. I have to admit I haven't been eating a whole lot, and I have been hungry so this is a good change. I was also told I can start adding carbs. I had my first piece of low carb toast today and it was oh so yummy!

Hey Laurel, I am 4/7/04, just got my stage 4 foods, basically eat what you are comfortable eating, I need to get some low carb bread, I want toast!!!!! I used to love toast!!!!! now I will eat a 1/4 of one now. ha ha. I eat about the same as you do, 5-600 cal. per day. I can't get in any more than that. I am hungry now for my meals (three a day) I wasn't told to double my food, I was cautioned to be careful and only eat 3 oz per meal...funny how all dr.s are soo different. deb -41
