I had surgery on 4/27, one week ago today. I weighed for the first time today and have lost 10 lbs. I'm feeling great. I'm having my tube taken out today. Won't be sorry to be rid of that.

Hello, My surgery is scheduled for June 21st. I've been lurking on your board because everyone's knowledge of WLS procedure. Can you tell me a bit about the drain. I know the basics... but how uncomfortable is it? How did the doctor remove it? - JJ

The drain I had was a g-tube drain that drained bile and the like. The drainage was nasty but the tube wasn't bad. I had a routine of plugging it and draining it so by the time I had it taken out it was plugged the majority of the time. I had a friend who is also an RN (I am one) take the tube out for me. My surgeon is in Mexico so I am getting follow-up here--my PCP would have taken it out but my friend does it more often than my PCP does. My tube had a little bulb on the end that was inflated with sterile water. We used a syringe to remove tha****er then just pulled the tube out. For me there was no pain while removing it or after it was removed. The site where it was is draining a little so I need to keep a dressing over it for now. It wasn't a big deal at all.
