All Set for My Surgery April 27
Hey Kym,
Congratulations on your date too! Are you going to be at Norwalk Hospital as well? Is your doctor Dr. Ehrlich? What is your story? I'm 5'8", 49 and 327 pounds. I'm excited and grateful to be having this surgery. I'm also really, really scared. Thanks for the good words. Write any time. I'd love to chat.
Take care,
Linda.
Hi Linda,
I was glad to hear from you and thanks for your support! I will be having surgery at Crestwood Hospital in Huntsville,AL. My surgeon is Dr. Facundas. I'm 5'3" and 267lbs. Like you, I am excited and grateful to have a new lease on a healthier life. So far, I have not had any thoughts about being scared...waayyy to excited to think otherwise I guess.
What have you been doing to occupy your mind while you wait on your surgery date? Me, I try to occupy my mind by focusing on a new me! I think the hardest part is the waiting. I am not one with a lot of patience and I find the wait to be taxing. Have you any pre-op instructions about dieting? I have eliminated sugar intake and carbonated drinks, increased my water intake, take my vitamins, eat more veggies, decreased the carbs, and the like.
I'd like to stay in contact with you. You are welcome to email me at anytime as well.
The best of success to you!
Kym
Hi Kym,
This is great - we're one day apart for surgery. I think I need to join a support group in town to share information with more people like you. My regular friends don't completely know how we feel, even though they try. To tell you the truth, I have not been reeeeeeal happy or excited yet about the surgery. There seem to be so many other problems going on in my life like money, keeping employed until then (because I've needed to take approximately a day per week off to keep my feet from swelling so much and cramping). My varicose veins in my legs are getting so big just lately and I'm terrified of blood clots. Of course I'm making my surgeon very aware of it.
As to pre-op instructions, my surgeon requires 2 weeks of 1000 calorie, low fat dieting and the last two days clear liquids only. I guess I'll be starting that the day after Easter! I seem to be really stuffing myself very aggressively since I got my surgery date. I don't normally eat this much. I KNOW I've put on weight and I do feel worse each day.
Boy, this is a gloomy little message, isn't it? I feel so terribly down.... I have crying spells almost daily. I am so very frightened. But the more questions I get answered by my doctor, the better I hope to feel. I have my pre-op appointment with him, plus my bloodwork and ekg on April 14.
Thanks for the correspondence, and I hope to pick up your cheerful outlook.
All the best,
Linda.
Linda,
Hello! I was glad to hear from you. I am sorry to hear that you are, or were, "down". I guess we all have our moments. I wish I had the words to encourage and lift you up. I think the main key is to remain "focused".
I try to keep my mind on the future and call whatever moments in life that tend to be a weight... just a "temporary moment". I try to remain positive because I don't like the burden of carrying the weight or the consceqences it has on my health. It has taken me some time to learn to apply certain principles in my life but I find that it helps me a great deal.
I go for my pre-op appointment on April 13th and I have to have my blood work and EKG done a week before the appointment. On March 23rd I hope to be attending my first WLS support group. I hope all goes well. I look forward to meeting new people and gathering more information.
So far, I haven't had any moments where I have splurged. That's not to say that I haven't thought of it...LOL! Actually, the more I think of splurging I find myself going to the grocery store to buy more sugar free jello, buillion cubes, unsweetened applesauce and the like. I really want this to work for me. I have lost five pounds in 12 days just by eliminating carbonated drinks, increasing water intake, and eliminating caffiene.
You have my support for continued success in your new lifestyle change...
Kym
