I envy you. I'm thinking of having the same thing done. I asked my OB for a referral and I have to call. I'm sick of "hanging" around to my middle. lol Good luck and best wishes for a safe surgery. As Dolly Partan was said to have said: "I'd let the doctors do anything they wanted to me". Wish I had the money to do that also. They could have my whole body and return it to me 34C, 26, 36. Wouldn't that be a hoot! Marilyn "R"

Topic: RE: Plastice Surgery Appeal
Stephanie, I have written several PS request and appeal letters for local support group members as well as for myself. I was approved for an abdominoplasti and Medial thigh lift on the first attempt, but others have not been so lucky. I will be happy to write a sample letter for you and your doctors, but first you will need to supply me with all of your information. (PCP name, Surgeon Name, Date of WLS, Type of WLS, Beginning and current weight, Problems since WLS that show medical necessity and have they been documented, if so with which Dr.?, Is breast reduction the only type of PS that you are requesting? Have you had other PS done in the past?, which PS are you wishing to use?) Hugs from Okie Land, Sherry Open RNY 4/23/03 - 276 ABP & TL 10/06/04 - 176 Today 164 (1 pound under goal and in size 8/10)

Topic: RE: United health care of north carolina
Tammy, I have United Healthcare through a national company. I had an Abdominoplasti and Medial Thigh Lift on 10/06/04 and they paid for both proceedures. The best thing to do is to call the Customer Service Number on your card and ask them if they cover reconstructive surgery. Each plan with United Healthcare is a little different, so it is best to ask them directly on your plan. The Proceedure codes are: 15831-22 (Abdominoplasti) and 15832-50 (Medial Thigh Lift) Also the IC-9 diagnosis code is 729.39 (removal of redundant skin following massive weight loss). Also find out the address to overnight your pre-determination file. I have sample letters for your physicians and yourself if you wish to use them, just email me at wealthgvr@sbcglobal. and I will attach them for your copying pleasure. Hope that helps. Best of luck in your PS endevors. Hugs from Okie Land, Sherry Gates High

Karen, I forget to check this board. I am in here for the first time in months. Congrats on your reconstruction. How are you feeling? I had an abdominoplasti with muscle tightning and a Medial thigh lift on 10/06. I will tell you that it does get better. I had a lot of pain from days 3-6 but by day 7 I was feeling pretty good again. I guess today is your day 7? My PS actually used a non-narcotic pain pump in my incision site. It was great because it kept the abdominoplasti site numb for the first 3 days. But when it ran out of med..........WOW Look out!! Hope you are feeling great. Hugs from Okie Land, Sherry

Topic: RE: Is anyone else feeling like a failure??
Ethel - I can sympathize. I've lost 231 lbs so far, but I haven't lost any weight in probably 4 months now. I know that they told me before my surgery that you can expect to lose 50-75% of your excess body weight, and I'm pretty much at 75% now, so I guess I lost what I was supposed to. So, I think that now we just have to diet like normal people, and it's very slow, hard work. I don't think we should get too down on ourselves since we've accomplished something very difficult. But, I know, for myself, I need to cut out more of the junk that I've been eating, etc. Are there places you can cut more? Good luck and don't stop trying!

Topic: I'm getting real nervous.......
11-22-04: Well, I am defiantly getting nervous. I did file an appeal on the 17th. My PCP helped. We faxed everything to my surgeon's office & they faxed everything to Aetna. Today, I recieved a letter from Aetna, stating that everything needs to be mailed to them within 15 days. So, tomorrow, I will call the surgeon's office & ask them to mail everything ASAP. Please, pray that I will get approval for my breast reduction for the 500 grams to be removed from each breast. The 915 grams removed would make me flat chested!!!!! I will be having my surgery in exactly 1 week. I have been having nightmares about the pain & loosing business! I know that I am stressing out! I will be staying overnight at Harbor Hospital on 11-29. Please, keep me in your prayers for a speedy recovery with little pain & discomfort. I, am vain, please pray for my scarring to be minimal. Thank you & God bless each & every one of you! Good luck on your journey, as well. Hold on, because the ride is a bumpy one! HEHE! It is worth every bruise, though, I must say.... Please, feel free to send me an e-mail. ESP., if you have had an abdominoplasty, liposuction or a breast reduction done. Thank you. Peace out....
