Hi Deby! Congratulations on the 45# lost! You said you had been married for almost 33years. I was wondering your age if you don't mind me asking. I'm 58 and waiting for a surgery date but feeling very anxious about my age and having it done. I have had so much frustration (not with insurance) communicating with the Dr.'s secretary and getting a date. I've completed all requirements and my surgery was approved over 6 months ago! Your surgery date was the day before my 37th wedding anniversary - Yeah for April ! Take good care. Ellen

Hi y'all from rainy VA. I had my surgery (RNY) on April 8th and as of this morning I'm down 45 pounds. That's 45 pounds that I'll never see in this lifetime again! Words can't describe how I'm feeling about the "new me". And it still amazes me how the world looks at me now - so different. I've been married for almost 33 years, and it's better than ever. He's been the most incrediblly supportive person - I don't think I could have done this without him! For those of you still pre-op, hang in there. I absolutely guarantee that it's worth the struggle!!!

Topic: Will this surgery work
Hi everyone. I live in Bermuda and I had surgery on the 28th April 2003 in Atlanta Georgia. I weighted 298lbs and as of today 20 June, I have only lost 35lbs. Does this seem slow to anyone else? In eight more days I will be two months out of surgery with a possible loss of aprox 40lbs. An I expecting too much too soon. Diets have failed me in the past and I am afraid of this failing as well, but it's done now and I will just have to continue on. I have even started an exercise class four times a week.

Hi Lee, I'm glad to read how well you're doing. I know sometimes I feel bored with "my menu". The doctor told me to go ahead & slowly experiment with all types of food. He said he has found from feedback that steak and pork chops were the hardest to digest at this time. ( I had a lap RNY on 4-29-03) I've tried alot of things, including hot dogs-not my favorite....... I do great on lean cuisines for lunch, or cottage cheese w/ tomatoes or fruit. The thing I miss the most is drinking with my meals, it drives me CRAZY! I sure hope that will improve. My breakfaasts are usually cream of wheat, instant breakfast or an egg with toast. I've bought some sugar free syrup and I might try waffles or pancakes this weekend. I'm not losing like the rest of you guys, 36lbs @ 7weeks- but I'm happy none the less! Good Luck Loralee Blanchet

Hi there! My surgery date was 4/18 - started at 282, now 228 (-54). I find that I can't eat any breads at all. I can however eat crackers and goldfish - maybe 2-5 at a time but I can stomach it. I eat chicken anyway I can think to cook it and with whatever I can cook it with. I also have gotten one of those chix enchalada bowls from taco bell with no rice or tortilla strips. I can eat one of those bowls over the course of 3 days. I eat refried beans, eggs, string cheese, yogurt, peanuts.....and that's about the extent of my menu. I keep hoping it will get better but then again I am kindof glad I don't weigh 282 anymore. I don't know aobut you guys but either I forget to eat or I am so afraid to eat because I don't know how things will react, that I just skip all together. Also the energy level is horrible! I sometimes take 2 hours in the morning to even get out of bed. Good thing I see the Dr. tomorrow right? Well, I hope all goes well with everyone. Talk to you soon! Shelly Dobbin

I have had the same uncomfortable full feeling occasionally and have to get sick. I also have the white foam thing going on and I think that it is saliva that we all swallow. When we are too full and nothing is moving down it all piles up on top of our food. If I eat really heavy foods like pasta or beef. Good luck!

Hi Melissa, I had my surgery on April 11th and I am doing fine now. I have noticed that if I drink to fast or to much after eating I go in lock down mode also. And I am in such discomfort that I will throw it up. But lately I have been doing just fine. I try to chew my food as long as possible without losing the taste of it. I also cut my food very small. I started this journey weighing a total of 342 pounds and I am truly happy to say that I weigh 295 beautiful pounds. I haven't stepped on a scale and it read under 300 pounds in years. This means I only have 145 pounds to drop. And I know I can do it.

HI Michelle - I was anemic before surgery, too. I used to get tired all the time. Since surgery, doc has me on 450 mg's of ELEMENTAL IRON every day. That's 7 times what I was taking when I was pregnant! I also take b12 once a week. No need for the shot, because the sublingual (under the tongue) version does me fine. I have not been tired since I started this regimen with iron and b12. Good luck!

HI Lee - I am just over 2 months out and down 58 pounds. I can eat lots of different things, too. The easiest is lunch meat, cheese and thin crackers. Lunchables are easy and quick and they make up for about 2 meals for me. I also LOVE turkey wraps with La Tortilla Factory low carb tortillas. They don't feel like regular tortillas...more like a really flat bread. It's the only bread I can stomach, actually. I have really been into cobb salad lately, too. I just get lots of cheese and chicken and ham on it. Since we don't absorb fat, I get it with the real blue cheese dressing! YUM! Hey - now I'm hungry! Good luck!

Hi Lee. Well I am 2 months post op (surgery on 4/21/03) as well and as you I also have a hard time eating meat. I love tuna, shrimp ****tails, the juice of the cup o noodles soup, tortilla soup without the tortilla chips, Ritz crackers with cheese, the egg rolls and stuffed jalapenos from Jack in the Box (I have to squeeze all the fat out first) and anything that has juice and lemon. I make my tuna with onion, tomato, cucumber, cilantro and lemon and eat it with crackers. I also make crab salad with the same ingredients. Hope this gives you an idea of new foods you can try. - Bertha, California
