AT about what rate is everyone losing weight. i had surgery 4/24 and am down only 53 pounds. Not that 53# is anything not to be proud of but from what I am reading, some people are losing much faster that me.

Topic: RE: Why no TUMS???
hi Sue, the dietician that one of the busiest practices here in Va has tols hundreds of his patients, no tums because we can't absorb the type of calcium that is in it. there is calcium carbonate and calcium citrate. they are very different from each other. I have spoken with several people on this issue and all recommend cal caltrate, not carbonate. I will try to get a better reason ans response for you but i am walking out the door right now. hugs, congrats on your loss so far, isn't it amazing????? Robin

Topic: PERSONAL - FOR LADIES ONLY!!!
Although I have discussed this with my Dr., I was curious if any other ladies were in the same situation.......I had my "friend" for the surgery, and 14 weeks later it STILL has yet to return!! Not that this is a bad thing LOL. He said it was very common with rapid weight loss and eventually it will arrive. Anyone else have a similar experience???? Thanks!!

Topic: RE: Low Energy level
Hi I had surgery on April 22. I think i have a low energy level but i also had it before surgery. I started taking the vita4life vitamins for wls people and they make a big difference. I still take and afternoon quick nap or an early evening nap almost every day. I am getting up much earlier and walking before the heat of the day hits. I had 6 weeks off and a month of 1/2 days and now i'm on vacation for 2 weeks. I'm sure once i go back to work full time on the 14th it will be hard but i'll deal with it. I've lost about 40lbs and wi**** was more but from the notices here I see that about right so i guess i'll be thankful. I have about 100 lbs to go. Lorraine

Topic: RE: Why no TUMS???
We were taking TUMS for the first month because they were easily chewable/dissolvable/crushable. Once we were able to tolerate solids, our surgeon suggested Citrical Calcium Citrate with Vitamin D. BEWARE though.....the pills are HUGE; if you do not tolerate the swallowing well stay away from them. Sometimes they feel like they just lay in my stomach! Tara

Topic: RE: Hi, I feel great!!!!
Congratulations to everyone with their successful weight loss!! I need a little support here - Lap RNY Surgery date was April 2, 2003 and it seems like everyone around me is melting away and I am struggling to lose the weight. I am down 49 lbs so far, but everyone else seems to be losing more in less time!! I feel like I am doing everything right, eating protein, drinking water, exercising regularly, I cannot imagine what's going on! I am getting super frustrated! My husband had surgery March 5 (only 4 weeks ahead of me) and he's down 91 lbs!!! If one more person tells me men lose it faster, I'll SCREAM! Thanks for letting me "vent" TARA

Topic: RE: Emotional Eating
This is a very big process for us and it takes more than surgery to get us to the other (healthy) side of our life. I had surgery on 4/15/03 and down 44lbs. Listening to others I thought I should have lost more weight by now and I thought I wouldn't have cravings. I'm learning to enjoy eating what I can and sometimes I reward myself with a treat (something I want and can tolerate, good for me or not). I was at the nutritionist last week and as she reviewed my food dairy she critiqued me on eating foods with 'lots of fat'. I told her that I'm only eating 2-3 tbs of rice or pasta and surely that can hurt me as opposed to the large soup bowl of pasta and everything else I was eating prior to surgery. I also reminded her that I had the surgery because I had repeating failed at other weight lost attempts and these habits are not going to go away over night. I didn't create them quickly and they won't leave quickly. Nevertheless Lenora, my goal is to be healthy. I need this surgery to be the tool to help me help myself. I too have briefly wondered if I did the right thing. I quickly realized I have. 44 lbs lighter is making a big difference in my life. I walked up a (1) flight of stairs and was able to carrying on a conversation, did not break out in sweat and did not lose my breath. Be encourage and know that God has not put more on you than you can bear. Take it one day at a time, one meal at a time, one bite at time.

Hey everyone is different, my nutritonist recommended TUMS smooth dissolve for the first 9 weeks. Not only for a good source of calcium but they really help when things don't go down so well. What does your nutritionist/surgical team suggest? Good luck. 11weeks post-op, 44lbs down.
