Lillie,
I COULD NOT AGREE MORE! 101 POUNDS DOWN SINCE 4/3 AND IT WAS THE BEST DECISION I EVER MADE. I had some rough times at first but now that I look back. I would do it over again too. CONGRATS, on you weight loss!
Topic: RE: Is your incision healed yet?
I had surgery April 3 and my incision is completely healed, in fact I am back in the gym lifting weights. My incision healed pretty rapidly and I think that was due to first, my great surgeon and secondly trying to get the right amount of protein in. I do not know if the draining is common but after this long I would definetly have it checked especially if he has already burned it off once. Good Luck and let us know what happens!
Topic: RE: Platues happen :(
I know I was losing at a very rapid weight loss, 101 pounds in less than 12 weeks and then all of a sudden for the past two weeks nothing. My doctor told me that we will hit plateus that could last for awhile then all of sudden drop. I am not complaining about the wieght loss so far. It is just discouraging when you are doing the things you need to do plus now I am exercising, and still on that crazy plateau, but I know one day soon I will wake up and another 10 lbs will be off. Hang in there! The weight will move.

Wow! Most of you are losing faster than I am. I had my surgery 4/21 and am down 48 lbs. I'm okay with that, though! I feel wonderful.
Topic: Is your incision healed yet?
Hi everyone! Just a quick question. Is anyone out there still have their incision draining? Not that I am complaining, I am doing great, and would do it again in a heartbeat. But I still have draining going on, and I wanted to know if this is common. Most of my incision is healed, except the very bottom of it, where it still hurts, has a little ball of flesh (the size of a dime) and drains. I go back to my Doctor next Tuesday and he will probably burn it off with silver nitraite, that is what he did last time, 5 weeks ago, and it hurt bad. Does anyone know how to heal it quicker? Thanks!!!

Hey Rita - At 10 weeks, your weight loss seems on the high side to me. That's about where I was at 10 weeks. I had my surgery April 8th - 13 weeks - and I'm now down 69 pounds. Different docs, web sites and other WLS people say different things. I consider my weight loss pretty rapid, though I was a "lightweight", too (started at 280). I'd say you're right on track or even a little better! Good luck! - juliet
Topic: RE: Why no TUMS???
TUMS are calcium carbonate, which requires stomach acid to be absorbed. With our very small pouches we do not produce enough stomach acid to absorb very much calcium carbonate (coral calcium is also not absorbed well by WLS patients, but I don't know what the science behind that is). Calcium citrate, on the other hand, does not require stomach acid to be absorbed, and so is a much better choice for us. We will absorb all, or most, of what we take in as calcium citrate. Lots of dietitians and doctors are still recommending TUMS to us, but I think it is out of habit rather than conscious thought. My dietitian suggested TUMS, but when I asked her about the need for stomach acid, she stopped for a moment to think, and then agreed that I probably don't produce enough stomach acid anymore to effectively break down the calcium, and wholeheartedly endorsed my suggestion of taking calcium citrate instead.

Don't fret Rita you are doing great. 53 pounds in 10 weeks!! Everyone is different. I myself have lost 105 pounds and plateaued 2 weeks ago, not an ounce, but I know this will pass. I think you are right on track. Just think it is 53 pounds, and where you be if you did not have the surgey? If anything like me I would have been 20 lbs heavier. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!
