My first plateau I think? Help!!
I'm just over three months out and have lost 51 pds. But I've been down 51 pds for a couple of weeks now. I weighed myself this morning and wham I haven't budged!! I don't think I eat enough. I eat very small meals only 3 or 4 times but I do drink a litre and 1/2 of water everyday. Help! Any comments?? on this.

Lee, That's not a bad loss for three months but I know it can be frustrating when the scale doesn't move. Have you tried what they call the Protien Train? You drink your water; Keep Your carbs down around 20 (I stay under 30); exercise 30 min a day(I still don't like it so I'm lucky if I get 20 min a day); and Keep your intake down ( I try to keep between 500-800 a day). Find out what works best for you. I know it sounds like work but after a while it becomes natural. Hang in there you never know when the scale might give you a surprise. (I sometimes feel the are Mischevious little gremlins in there). (HUGS!)
I was told by my doctor that if I hit a plateau, I need to eat more and drink more. digitalhorsewoman.com is an excellent sight to help you with your eating and drinking. I hit a standstill and start eating more. I weigh my food to make sure that I am getting at least 4 to 6 ounces every sitting 5 to six times a day. Eat more often and wait at least an hour to an hour and a half before drinking. You might be washing the food right out of your stomach instead of a gradual draining of food. Water intake is around 200 ounces a day and probably more than I have listed. I am down 80 pounds since April 15th and down over 95 since last summer (I had gallbladder problems and couldn't eat hardly at all without terrible pain). I am firmer now than last year because of swimming, water aerobics, and I just started toning tables because of summer coming to an end and college has not started yet. You have got to get that body moving and water exercises keep the strain off of our joints. Good luck...I think you are doing just great..
Hi Lee, you didn't say where you started?
I was open ryn on 4/8 and began at 226, am now 170, loss of 56 pounds. I also seem to "plateau" about every three or four weeks or after a good 3 pound drop. BTW, a real plateau lasts for at least a month. this is probably just your body playing catch up with its loss.
I have also been told to eat more, right now I am about 800 calories and if I increase input for a few days, I end up losing you kinda have to tweak the system every once in a while I think. you also need MUCH more water or fluid to lose faster. are you doing any high quality protein shakes at all????
write back if you can,

Hi Robin,
I was just going through the posts. I also had the RNY on 4/7/03. It is now 2/26/04 and I have been hitting the junk food (chips and cheetos without the transfats-believe it or not). I was so good on the proteins and it didn't do a thing. I've lost 69/70 pounds depending on the salt I retain, but a strange thing is happening. My weight seems to be "shifting", going more toward the stomach and above. I have to start exercising I know, but I've stalled and really want to get off 25 more pounds. I started at 221 and am now down to 153. It's good, but I'm in a quandry as to how to stop the starches or if it even matters with this type of surgery at this point. Help if you have run into the same problem 10 months out. Thanks.

Don't let that plateau thing get you down, Lee!
I've found it VERY hard to even eat my first meal of the day before 3pm even, and that's waking up around 7am to a hungry baby each morning. Once I started to find myself going thru a slight plateau, I started to MAKE myself eat something before 10:30am each morning, mostly protein, and then to encourage myself to eat some cheese or beans or some other protein-type snacks here and there, and I MUST say that the results have been awesome! So, you just stick in there, girl. All will work out for you.
Take care and God bless you,
Tess
