Hi. I am in search of help with a problem. I have been suffering with nausea for 4 weeks. None of my doctors are being helpful. The GI doctors think I have been cheating on my diet. I wi**** were that simple. I could resolve the problem if that were the problem. I have been given a prescription for every nausea medicine I know of. Nothing is helping. I had gastroplasty surgery, not the rny. The only thing I have been able to eat in the past week was a cream soup I had for lunch today while I was still admitted in the hospital. It was relatively bland with specks of something, vegetables or seasonings I guess. Does anyone have any ideas what it might have been? If you know of anything that might be easy on my stomach I would be ever so grateful if you would pass it along. I am so hungry. Up until last Friday I was living mostly on supplements and instant potatoes. Now I can't handle them. My mother has suggested the possibility of food allergies or allergies to medicines. The GI doctor has put me back on a full liquid diet. Telling me to eat liquids isn't a fix when I can't eat hardly anything. Could sinus problems be at fault. I have a history with sinutis. I've been told told numerous times that the surgery can really affect your body in different ways. I would appreciate any help or advice. Have a great weekend. Donna 75+lbs gone since April 8 2003

Hi Donna, sorry about your nausea, have you tried a nasil decongestant, like nasonex? I have read alot of post that have post nasal drip. Are you on a drug for acid reflux like prevacid, prilosec, GERD can cause nausea, another thing is do you take very small bites, like the size of a baby spoon, I know you mentioned gastroplasy instead of RNY, so I dont know if that could be a problem or not just a thought. What types of food do you eat? I had RNY on 4-23-03 I can eat anything, but creamsoups yuck, does jello bother you? or cottage cheese or cottage cheese with a couple of strawberries or frozen peaches like a smoothie. I know its irritating when a doctor doesnt believe you. Have you been scoped for an ulcer? You could have a sinus infection and need antibiotics, would diet coke make you feel better or hot tea or coffee? Sometimes I think we just have to listen to our own bodies, and if something sounds good to eat taste it and try it. Good luck I hope you get to the root of your problem. Rosemary

well, after about 8 wks I had about 3 wks of constant nausea specially with water & after I started with my antihistamine, alavert, it totally went away. I suffer from post nasal drip & that was going into my stomach & made me nauseas. You may speak to your physician to see if you could try an antihistamine to see if this helps. I hope this is able to help you, Good luck. Grisell

Hey Donna, I did not have this problem, but a lady on my support group did, and our docotor just told her that it happens in some people and would go away. She tried evertyhting that people suggested and it did not work. Then one day she woke up in her 3rd month and said "it is gone", and since then has been ok. I would try the other things people suggest, but realize we are all different and your stomach may be slow at healing. Sometimes when I eat too fast I get a little nauseated and have to slow down, same with taking to big of bites... I would make sure to check with your doctors prior to taking any medications. Good Luck and keep us posted...

At times I do feel nausea, but have never been sick. I really notice it if I have drank too soon after eating. My surgeon recommends loading the stomach with water 15 minutes before eating and waiting at least 1 1/2 hours to 2 hours before drinking again. I drink only water and am very afraid of any other beverage. Also, you could be mixing too many foods at one time. Try eating only one food and eating very slow, waiting at least 2 to 3 minutes and up to 5 minutes between bites and chew chew chew. You maybe not grinding the food to a pulp before swallowing. Don't talk while eating because you could also getting too much air which in turn will cause the stomach to hurt. I usually try easy disolvable tums which seems to help if I have eaten too quickly. I hope any of this helps. Patti

Donna, I also began getting sick at 2 months. In my case it was accompanied by some severe abdominal pains. I thought that the pain was from vomiting at first then after having several follow up visits with my surgeon I now know it is my gall bladder. Have you experienced any of this type of pain? Pre surgery we were told that rapid weight loss could cause gall bladder problems so I am not surprised, but it has taken almost 3 weeks for the Dr. to pinpoint the problem. I can sympathize with the not knowing. I had VBGB which is the RNY with the band, so I get all the side effects of both procedures. I am not complaining, besides this I think all else will go smoothly. In addition my doctor did put me on prevacid for Acid reflux and that did stop the vomiting, you may want to suggest that. I am with the others though, I would not reccomend you take any herbs without consulting your surgeon or dietitian, we were strictly warned about herbs pre - op. Good luck Leann
