Confused in Rockford, IL
This is my first posting, so forgive me if it is stinky I had my surgery 4/21/03 (10 weeks ago) and am 60 lbs. down. I am having sooooo much trouble getting enough protein in. Any suggestions?? I have always been a perpetual dieter too, so I do think about calories. I guess I am not supposed to, but I do. So I try to get enough protein, but I am always afraid I am eating to often then. My surgeons pogram is very conservative. We are only supposed to eat 3 meals a day, no snacks. I cheat and have reduced fat cheese or a couple tablespoons of yogurt, because I do get hungry. I thought I would not. I hope my pouch has not stretched or something!! There are just so many things I worry about!!! Any suggestions for a nuerotic?
Thanks...LOL!!!
Sounds like you are doing great, 60 pounds down! My surgeon and nutritionist want me to eat 6 mini meals a day so my pouch does not stretch. He said if I only eat 3 meals a day, those meals will be bigger as time goes on and that will stretch it. Cottage cheese is a great source of protien. Can you eat meats like chicken, pork or hamburger yet? They are great sources also. Make sure they are moist when you eat them, that way they stay down well. Chicken salad is always good, so are eggs, another great source of protien. Good luck and keep up the good work!!!!
I too think your doing great! My surgery was 4/4 and I have only lost 55#. I don't exercise as much as I should(Irelly hate it and am hoping some day it will grow on me). My eating pattern also consists of 3 meals a day and two protien snacks (if I get hungry). Like lowfat cottage cheese, a hard boiled egg or 1-2 pieces of light string cheese. I also am not a breakfast person so I drink a chocolate protien drink with Eggbeaters in it (Sounds bad but you don't taste the Eggbeaters). The Mix I use is Met-RX Milk chocolate. I get it at Meijers. It has 140 calories with the eggbeater and 29g of protien and only 4 carbs(if your counting them). So I get almost 1/2 of the minimum amount of protien a day that my Dietician recommended (60g). Keep up the good work! LOL
I think you are doing great. I don't know how you could survive on only 3 meals a day with no snacks. I didn't get hunger for the first month but I certainly do now - and, yes, it is "real" hunger not "mental" hunger. I have to eat a little protein every 3 hours or I get light-headed. I am down 67 pounds right now but I had a high BMI to start. I think fish and protein supplements are probably the lowest calorie protein sources if you want to count calories. I completely understand the calorie counting. It's a hard habit to break.
Do you have a gnc ? They have some really good protein shakes there i have a whey protein shake i mix with fruit and ice cubes with milk i love it i drink 2 to 3 shakes a day each scoop is over 20 grams of protein its a quick fix if you feel you are not getting all of your protein in all you can do is try. I had my surgery on 4/10/03 and i am down 82 lbs i walk walk walk m-f and i feel like a new person keep up the great work everyone remember where we all started off its a long haul smile no matter how much weight you have lost we all went through a very difficult challenge
