The shakes I'm on are HMR800. IMHO it's basically an 800 calorie a day pre-surgery doctor-prescribed "crash-diet." I'm almost ashamed to admit that I haven't yet chosen a protein shake for afterwards. I've tried a couple, but I keep changing my mind. I'll probably choose in the last week, and then go buy enough to last a month. (I know I can change my mind later if I hate it, but I'm very frugal and don't want to waste my money.)

I'm so glad that the doc says we can break it up a bit with some broth, because the are rather cloying. I'm especially grateful for the dill pickles.

Truly I'm not complaining. I'm thrilled to be this close to my date. Someday these two weeks will seem like a blur.

My surgery date is on the 22nd as well.  I am having the RNY.  I am feeling the same emotions as you.  The first 4 days of my liquid diet I was having diahrrea as well.  I started my liquids on the 8th.  So I am on day 8 and things are getting better.

Congrats on the 11 pound weight loss. That's great!!

March 22, 2010 is my surgery date and I am excited and scared at the same time. I am having a revision from Molina band to VSG. I have been on high protein low calories since March 1st, lost 11 pounds, been off carbonated drinks since Feb. 22 and caffiene since February 26! I am having a lot of trouble with diahrrea since I began drinking the protein drinks and am a little concerned about that, but, I am still just waiting on that magic day and date!! The day BEFORE my 8th anniversary!

No problem.  If it's really affecting you, you may want to call your dietician to see what they have to say.

What are you drinking/eating for yours???

I am 8 days in and have been having chicken/beef broth, sugar free jello/pudding, crystal lite and protein shakes and lots of water.

BEEN THERE!!!  I was originally hoping to have surgery around mid-February but all my hemoglobin stats, etc. were in the basement.  I admit I was disappointed when the surgeon put me on liquid ferrous sulfate [tastes nasty but works] and told me to wait for 30 days and have more blood drawn.  My levels rose in those 30 days PLUS I felt so much better physically.  It's awful how bad anemia can make us feel and we may be unaware.

The plus to finding this now is that if you can take iron and raise the levels, you'll go into this surgery so much stronger.  My surgery is now scheduled for next Thursday and it's actually gotten here faster than I realize.

So, unless there's a huge underlying cause for your anemia that can't be fixed with pushing more iron in, you SHOULD be fine.

Just my experience.  I'm not a doctor, nurse or any other medical professional.   Good luck.

Samantha I am drinking chicken/beef broth, sugar free jello/pudding, crystal lite, protein shakes.  I didnt drink much sodas, so the only other thing it could be is from sweets, but I had cut my sweets back alot before the liquid diet.

Thanks for answering me.

Good luck, and just relax.. it will go well.  I didn't have a pillow when I went home, but it would have been a good idea.  Luckily, my DH decided to be a good driver instead of the nauseating one he can be.  I was actually up and at 'em pretty quickly after surgery, including the 45 minutes in Wally World walking around waiting for my pain meds to be ready.

The things that I really used out of my case were a soft blanket from home that I used as a pillow and my deodorant.  I brought stuff to wash my face, but didn't need it.  I also was only in my recovery room for 5 hours, so you may want to take my statements with a grain of salt.  I pretty much slept off and on for the first 3 and then I was up the last 2.

I too was very anxious coming up on surgery and had a pretty horrible nightmare when I came out of anesthesia.. like one where I had decided not to have the surgery and I was in pain!  My advice, just relax.  Your Dr will take care of you, so just get through all the pre-op stuff and make sure you have all your vitamins, etc ready for when you get home.

I don't know if this will happen with you, but I shook a lot coming out of the anesthesia in post-op, so don't be scared like I was.  I also got a bit nauseous, but I found that as long as my head was elevated I had no issues.
