Hospital Stay
Hi Justine :)
I think I'm going to pack pretty light. I keep hearing to bring Chapstick, so I'll make sure to have that. I'm going to wear in/wear home the same outfit. I'm going for comfort only- like sweats and a tshirt.
I'm going to bring a bathrobe, but if you wanted you could just wear a second gown backwards to keep you covered on walks down the hall. Hmm...other than that, maybe makeup, toothbrush, lotion oh! and reading materials.
I'm interested to hear what others are bringing.

Hey!
Yes I've heard chapstick too - and I always have that with me anyway... I'm addicted.
I was thinking of bringing my laptop to do some stuff/games online but then the hospital told me to not bring valuable items just in case, so even my wedding ring is staying home, so I might just do books.
I think I'm going to go to Wally world and find some big sweatpants with a draw string, I have some comfy pants but they're comfy now, I don't know how they'll feel with a sore tummy so I might want some bigger stuff... we'll see.
Less than 2 weeks!
I've been told to bring minimal stuff to the hospital. Since most are in the hospital for only a day or so you don't need much. From what I understand you will either be sleeping, walking or visiting with the dietitian or surgeon. I have been advised to only bring chap-stick, good slippers for walking and comfy clothes to come home in.
Oh I thought of something - Women, bring pads! Even if you just got over your monthly, it more than likely will start up again in the hospital I've heard. Must be the trauma or something...
A friend recommended I get a back scratcher as you're in the hospital bed and can't really bend down to scratch your legs or feet, the scratcher will come in handy - I'm going to try to find one now...
Take measurements before you go to the hospital, if you come to a stall the inches might still go down as you're gaining muscle and weight is constant...

I am bringing a sleep mask, ear plugs and a white noise sound machine that I can wear headphones with. Hospitals can be pretty noisy at night.
I am also bringing my Gomer Pyle dvd's (don't laugh) that I got for Christmas. I started reading a really good book and decided to save it for the hospital and 2 other books titled "Okay So I Had My WLS What Do I Do Now and WLS for Dummies". Also my IPOD.
I have Listorine breath strips, a shower cap so my hair doesn't get wet while showering, make-up and other toiletries. I read that someone is bringing Extra Strength Gas X Strips but I am going to clear that with my doctor. I heard your mouth gets very dry and there is a spray product called Oasis which is to put it simply "artificial saliva".
I bought some hospital scrub pants (extra big and with a tie instead of elastic) and I will wear these under 2 hospital gowns. I heard it's hard to wear your own clothes because of the IV's and such. I prefer my own slippers and not hospital socks that won't stay on your feet straight.
Finally dont' forget your eyeglasses and eyeglass case if you wear them.
This is a lot of stuff but I would rather have too much (you should see what I take camping) than too little besides my husband will bring all of this after. Like others I am wearing loose sweats to and from the hospital.
