I know it is hard not to worry, but I wouldn't. Most obese people have a fatty liver. I have one. Weight loss surgery will take care of it. I wouldn't worry about it being NASH. More than likely it is just a fatty liver. I will be saying prayers for you.

I guess count your self lucky! I wish my Dr. was the same as yours LOL. Your right they are all different. I guess from what I read, it your liver is too big they may have to do open RNY instead of Lap. I think it is the worse that can happen. Dawn

Hi there! my surgery date is on March 24th too! I just have a quick question, my surgeon told me now binge eating, which I have done good about, but he never said anything to me about liquid diet 2 weeks before surgery. i know every surgeon is different, but i am just starting to freek out a little...he did say that binge eating could cause the liver to swell and make hard for lap surgery. your thoughts would be great!

Well tomorrow is my big day. Right now I am actually calm, but really really hungry. I'm sure my nerves will keep me up tonight and I'll be scared out of my wits tomorrow. But today I am calm and excited to start my new journey.

I am in the exact same boat. They will be taking a liver biopsy tomorrow during my surgery. My liver enzymes were elevated in my pre-op testing and they sent me to a gastroenterologist. I have had blood tests to rule stuff out, like Hep A B & C and other stuff, and he thinks that it is related to my weight.
They way he explained it to me is that when liver cells die, they release their contents into the blood stream, raising the liver enzymes that are detected in blood tests. Your liver generates new cells, so this is an ongoing cycle. Losing weight will help with this. I have gone through the exact same fears that you are going through, and am still going through them since there was no definite answer. I will going for a follow up with the liver doc in 5 weeks.
I know it is hard not to be scared out of your mind, my suggestion to you is to learn as much as possible about non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. In my mind, one can never be to informed. Then just relax. There is absolutely nothing you can do about it, that you aren't already doing. Please feel free to pm me if you want to talk.
