Topic: RE: March postops, what you eating?
Hi everyone,
I had surgery on March 9. The thing that I am eating a lot of right now is Fage, it is greek yogurt and has a ton of protein (21 grams/cup). I can only eat about 1/4 cup at a time, but a couple of times a day it adds up. I add splenda or sf pudding mix to make it taste good.
I am still having a problem with the protein shakes, they are not going down well at all. I feel like I'm doing really well if I get 40 or 50 grams a day, but the doc says 80, I think he's loco, maybe once I can add meat, but not while on full liquids.

I had my surgery March 17 and had all those emotions as well. I think everyone experiences a wide range of emotion. Last night while I was trying to fall asleep, I started giggling to myself because the term "Mini-Me" suddenly popped into my head. It now has a new meaning for me!

Hi, I had my surgery the same day. I am having the same exact problems sleeping without my meds. They couldn't find a liquid one for me. I tried to crush one up today and it gave me a lot of pain, not to mention the horrible taste. I was able to sleep for about 4 hours this afternoon. I feel a lot calmer now.
No hiccups for me, but every time I sip I feel a little gurgle.

No meds for me either. The last two days were clear liquids and 2 Tbls Milk of Magnesium the afternoon before the surgery. In the pre-op room they gave me a heparin shot but that was it. I came home Thursday and everything went fine. I believe the meds may be based on your current health history plus your risk factors. My PA did a risk worksheet with me and the score was very low so I needed nothing extra.

Dawny, I had my surgery on March 4th, too. Would love to compare notes! I'm new to this website so please bare with me. I've lost about 18-20 so far. I had laproscopic RNY. How about you?
I am feeling weak most of the time (sort of like how you feel when you're getting over the flu). Otherwise, feeling great. No pain.
Had dumping (I think) last night when our family went to Chili's for dinner. I had the guiltless grilled salmon. I felt terrible afterwards. Really bad for about 3 hours. Wish I knew specifically what caused it (the fish, the spices, the butter). But wouldnt think they'd use much butter since it was on the low fat menu.
What are you able to tolerate so far? How much walking are you doing? How much protein are you getting in each day? I'm probably getting 35-40 protein a day. Not enough which is possibly why I'm weak.

Hi Everyone! I had my RNY on March 4. I've lost 18-20 lbs (depending on when I weigh during the day).
I'm on pureed and some solids. I mostly eat a diet of: scrambled egg, cottage cheese, chicken salad (made with low fat dressing and salt/pepper only), yogurt (havent found one with low carbs so don't eat it much), refried beans, and cream potato soup ****asionally). Plus 1 scoop (20 g protein) nasty whey mix first thing in the morning.
I tried a couple bites of 'guiltless grilled salmon' (from "Chili's") last night. I was ILL when I got home. Guess it was dumping syndrome. Pain, threw up a little at one point, chills, etc. I don't know if it was the butter (thought they wouldnt use much since it was on the low fat menu) or the spices or just the fi****self. Wish I knew! I was so excited to eat some "real" protein at a restaurant with my family. Boy did I learn something!
Any suggestions on other foods would be most appreciated! Also, how much protein are y'all getting in a day? I am always weak!! But I'm just taking it slowly and doing what I can.

I am drinking 'vanilla flavored' "American Whey" from GNC. It has 20 g protein and 6 carbs. It suggests one scoop in 10 oz water. I quickly learned that 10 oz of that stuff was nauseating. So now I put 1 scoop in a cup and add enough water to mix it. Then a little ice. I drink it FIRST THING when I come downstairs in the morning. I'm thirsty anyway, so that helps. Then I take my shower, etc. I cook 1 scrambled egg and have that for breakfast. So far, that works pretty well.
My surgery was March 4. I'm allowed any foods (of course proteins #1!) and I am still staying away from carbs pretty much. I do eat (sometimes) some canned chicken salad mixed with low fat mayo and salt/pepper. I put it on crackers and eat 4 crackers worth for a meal. One can lasts me three meals.
Hope this helps!

Three days to go before the big day and I am so ready. It feels like a long over due present. I am nervous, anxious, happy, glad and sad all at the same time which is so weird. I have however said a fond farewell to the soon to be "big girl" She will be missed...but not that much because the normal girl is ready to live
