How about some updates for us March surgeries?

Let's hear some updates! The good the bad and the ugly! lol
I'm not asking about your weight loss necessarily, as we all lose at a different rate and I don't want to focus on that. (Feel free to share though if you want!)
I mean how are you feeling? What are you eating? Have you had any complications?
I'll start....
I'm doing ok. I feel like the longer out I am, the better I am able to tolerate certain foods. For a while it was rough going. I was vomitting quite a bit and many times I had to just go back to soft foods and wait. I've learned the hard way to take small bites and chew.
I've dropped 3 pant sizes and I have more energy. (Although the energy came only recently). I will be completely honest here, I am not getting nearly enough water intake and somedays, I'm not getting enough protein either. I do try though. People have asked me, would you do it again? At this point, no I wouldn't. Ask me again in a couple of months and I might change my mind. lol

I honestly haven't had any problems.  I felt awful the first month, a lot of pain and the first two weeks quite a bit of nausea, but since that went away I've not had a hard time.  I have only gotten sick once since surgery and then a couple of times where food did not sit well but I did not throw up.  The one time I did throw up was on cold chicken breast, so not smart.  I haven't really had foods that I can't tolerate, although there are still lots of foods I haven't tried, the ones that I have haven't been a problem.  My weight loss has been slower than most, but I am losing so I'm trying to go with the flow.  If you had asked me during the first month if I would do it again I might've said no, but now I'm not feeling bad so I'm ok with having had the surgery.  Other than not eating a whole lot I often don't feel like I had surgery at all (well and all the vitamin taking and other rules to follow, lol).

2 months today! I feel great. I had a bump in the road at 3 weeks with a stricture, but everything has been good since. The first month was difficult, with the pureed and soft foods and for me the hardest thing was the lack of energy.
Since about 4 weeks I have been going very well. I have tolerated everything I have tried, including veggies, fruits, and even WW pasta. Even had a bite of birthday cake ( I was so scared, I literally only had a bite) I'm finally getting used to the vitamin regamine and get them all in most days. I'm not counting calories or protein, but I make sure I make good choices at every meal and snack. I'm making protein smoothies and Eggface's ice-cream as my protein supplements. I don't think I'm getting enough water, but I'm not having any bathroom issues so I'm not worried. I'm down 40 lbs. today. I feel happy, energetic, and normal. I've been on a couple weekend trips and had no trouble with food.  Before 4 weeks I don't think I would have done it again, now...I think I would!
Thanks for sharing your stories. I hope things get better. Take care.

Hi everyone!

Nice to hear updates from you all.  I am doing well. The first month after surgery I didn't have a lot of energy but thank god I have energy now.  I try to get in my protien & liquids in each day, but admit sometimes I don't get in all my liquids.  I've been trying to do 2 protien drinks a day otherwise there is no way I could do it on just food alone.

I'm still struggling a little with eating some foods.  It seems like I eat the same thing over and over.. Yogurt...yogurt and more yogurt.....that goes do so well and sits well in the pouch.  Dense protien sits heavy - like that lump in my throat feeling.   I get sick if I eat too fast or too big of bites which I wish would stop happening.  I probrably get sick about 2-3 times a week because when I eat, it doesn't sit well and I get the foamies....ugh!

If I had the choice to do it over again, I would in a heartbeat.  I have gone from a size 24 pants and a 3x top to a size 20 or 18 pants and an XL shirt.

Take care everyone!

Nan

I had RNY on 3/25/09. I feel great most of the time. I have alot more energy but I usually try to get in a nap on the weekends. I am able to get all my protein and vitamins in daily. I get anywhere from 800-1000 calories a day. I get all my water most days I've gotten sick once from eating the insides of a pizza lean pocket (pepperoni, mozzarella, and pizza sauce).I won't make that mistake again. I also got sick on BBQ pork but did not throw up. I do however tolerate most foods as long as I take my time and chew really well. I eat grilled chicken, tilapia, crab, shrimp, salad, almonds, grapes, strawberries, cantaloupe, carrots (cooked), sugar snap peas, and more. I tolerate crackers but stay away from them because I can eat way too many. I've lost 56 pounds and gone from a 26/28 to a 20/22. I would do it all over again in a heartbeat! I could not have lost this weight without my tool.

I had my surgery on March 17, 2009.   It will have been 9 weeks tomorrow on the 19th of May.

I have lost a total of about 45 lbs. (9 lbs pre-op)

I am starting water areobics today because I have not done well with sticking to my treadmill.  I hate to exercise but know I must and I love water areobics so I am hoping that will help.  I have been stalled for a couple of weeks and I think it is b/c I am not getting enough protein.  I use unjury some but am tired of it.  I get my liquids down OK but get very full on even a few bites of canned chicken, meat or pretty much anything I put in my mouth.  THAT'S A GOOD THING because obviously I was an over eater before so it must be working.  I am happy with the weight loss and looking forward to more and to seeing the scales start moving down ward again.

One problem I have faced is that when people asked me two weeks ago how much I had lost and then ask me today and I haven't lost any more I feel like "what am I doing wrong'?  And when I tell them I am at a stall it's like WHAT/  How could that be???  I did take my measurements about a month ago but have not since.  I am doing OK, I guess???  Need motivation!  Have the blahhsss today but still happy I had surgery and know it will come off.

I have lost 41 pounds since sugery most was los the first month. I got down to 199 and then hit a stall its been over a week since i lost anything
I started out in a 22-24 pant now in a 14-16 tops were about the same 22 then to a 16-18 now.
If i had it to do again I would in a heartbeat.
The only issues i have had other than the stalls is I have vomitted a few times mostly cause i ate to fast or took one bite to much.
as far as energy I cant complain
I try to walk or ride my bike atleast 3-4 times a week and usually go anywhere between 4-6 miles each time.
and as far as eating anything that sits well ... and that changes all the time.

 Lets see here....

I had my surgery March 2.

I am feeling absolutely fantastic!  My energy levels are through the roof, compared to pre-op.  I feel I do all right in getting my protein in, but I should be doing better drinking my water.

I am eating pretty much everything, although I did find out the hard way that I can't tolerate salmon.  Gonna wait a LONG time (if ever) to try it again.

I, too, have dumped 6 times already (the last time being yesterday, when I ate a 2 day old sandwich from Burger King that  I had in the refrigerator, and had warmed up).  I basically go back to softer foods for the rest of the day (if its not too late in the day for that) and go from there.  I am also learning the value of smaller bites.  Once again, I learned that the hard way, too.

The only othe complication of note has been constipation.  When I get stopped up, it happens BIG time!  It even happened at work once!  I now am taking a stool softener most days, and, occasionally am taking a mineral oil laxative (recommended by my PCP) to also keep things moving along.

I now weigh 285 pounds.  I am down 55 pounds (as of 4/12) from my pre-op testing weight of 340.  I have gone from a 3XL shirt down to a 2XL, and I now am in 50 waist pants, down from a 56 waist.

Would I do it again?  In a New York (state ) minute!

Glad to see someone else eats sandwiches at BK sometimes.  You are doing awesome!  What a difference in a short time!  Way to go!

The BK sandwich was a one-time thing, and, based on my tummy's response to it, it won't be happening again anytime soon.  We were driving to see a brother of mine, and stopped for lunch, but mainly, we stopped for the Star Trek glasses. hehe
