lucky!
im always thirsty but nothing ever tastes right!
i think with RNY we're allowed to start drinking about 4oz. of water at a time and increase as tolerated...if you're tolerating fluids thats great! im pretty jealous haha

i'm sorry things are not tasting right.

I was told to SIP 2 oz over 15 min MOST  I think I am drinking around 4 oz though, I'm so thirsty

I hope the taste buds work for you

try using a straw, it helps from gulping but still gives you the right amount of water!

You have to follow your doctor's protocol.  My doctor sent me home on unlimited water.  I drank about 60 ounces yesterday in addition to 90 grams of liquid protein.  You probably should let him know that you are so thirsty.  Dehydration is a common side effect of this surgery.  I do know one thing, you shouldn't gulp anything.  :-)

I sip all day long. I am allowed 8 onces an hour.

I too am so thirsty.
Gulping isn't good since it can stretch the pouch in the first few weeks/months.

I was told 1 oz every 15 minutes so it seemed like all I did the first 2 weeks was water "shooters" using the mini cups the hospital provided. I would hold the water in my mouth and slowly swallow portions.
When I let too much down, I could feel it "hit" so to speak.

Now I'm two weeks post operative & I can take about 2 oz at a time. I sit with my bottle water drinking constantly. The hardest think for me is to stop drinking for the 20 minutes before & after eating as required before meals.

I'm with you. It bothers me when I have to stop drinking before & after eating as required to prevent pouch stretching.

Oh! I am so happy to read this post and hear that others struggle with this!

I suffer from Pseudotumor Cerebri and was on a strong diuretic pre-surg.  Prior to surgery, I would probably easily drink 140-160 oz of water a day.  I stopped the diuretic a few days before surgery and since they don't want me to get dehydrated, they have asked me to stay off of it and go for weekly opthalmolgic visits to watch my eye pressure to see if I can continue to stay off of the pills without damage to my vision.

Meanwhile, I am still thirsty so much! Everytime I put the water to my lips I want to just gulp gulp gulp....  But I have to tell myself NO!  I have taken in too much water on 3-4 occasions now and boy, that is something to avoid!

I can't wait until my pouch can hold more water.............not food!
