I am almost 3 weeks out after having VSG surgery. The surgery went great, no pain, no problem getting up and walking in the recovery room. The one thing I could of done without, was the gas.oh well, Gas x strips work great. Anyway after my surgery my Dr. told me that she didn't like the way my liver looked, so she took a biopsy and the results from pathology have not come back yet. She also told me it was nothing to worry about.that whatever it is the WLS is the best thing I could do for it. She said it could be the start of Fatty Liver Disease or the start of non alcoholic cirrhosis, either way I'm beside myself with fear. Has anyone else experienced this? Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I am in the exact same boat. They will be taking a liver biopsy tomorrow during my surgery. My liver enzymes were elevated in my pre-op testing and they sent me to a gastroenterologist. I have had blood tests to rule stuff out, like Hep A B & C and other stuff, and he thinks that it is related to my weight.

They way he explained it to me is that when liver cells die, they release their contents into the blood stream, raising the liver enzymes that are detected in blood tests. Your liver generates new cells, so this is an ongoing cycle. Losing weight will help with this. I have gone through the exact same fears that you are going through, and am still going through them since there was no definite answer. I will going for a follow up with the liver doc in 5 weeks.

I know it is hard not to be scared out of your mind, my suggestion to you is to learn as much as possible about non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. In my mind, one can never be to informed. Then just relax. There is absolutely nothing you can do about it, that you aren't already doing. Please feel free to pm me if you want to talk.

Thanks so much 4 the message. I just got my results yesterday and it was exactly what she thought it was very early stages of Fatty liver disease, it can't reverse itself, but we can curb it. All the literature says weight loss is the key, so having WLS is the best thing I have done 4 myself and my liver. I hope you are feeling ok, I know you had your surgery yesterday. I will be thinking and praying 4 you and your liver situation. Good Luck and here's 2 a great journey with your WLS. Keep me posted. Leslie:)

I know it is hard not to worry, but I wouldn't. Most obese people have a fatty liver. I have one. Weight loss surgery will take care of it. I wouldn't worry about it being NASH. More than likely it is just a fatty liver. I will be saying prayers for you.
