Topic: RE: CONSTIPATION
There are several reasons why we are more prone to constipation:
Not enough liquids (really shoot for 100 oz or more a day)
Narcotic pain killers (constipation is a side effect)
Not enough fiber or fat
My "constipation" fight began before I ever experienced it, and in truth, compared to the way some describe it over on the RNY forum, I've never had it like they have.
Every morning I take my multivitamin and two Sugar Free Fiber Choice tablets. I drink plenty of fluids. I try to have fibrous foods. (I love the Fiber One granola bars). If I'm taking a pain killer (recent dental work), I take more Fiber Choice in the evening. I also make sure that I have good fats nearly every day. Olive Oil based salad dressing (tablespoon) or Avocado. Fat, in moderate quantities, promotes nice soft fluffy poop. (sorry for the TMI)
If I was all stopped up already, I'd try to up the fluid greatly, begin the Fiber Choice, and then use a Glycerin Suppository, which I've heard works well. There's also various and sundry laxatives that people take, Milk of Magnesia, Colace, or other over the counter remedies for constipation. Ask your local pharmacist if you don't know what is good. You also might get more help over on the RNY forum where there is a wider variety of people who can share their remedies.

Topic: RE: Have any Marchers out there started working out at the gym?
Hello,
Yes, I go to the gym 3 times a week and do 30mins on the eliptical machine and life weights (free weights and machine). I found that everytime I do the 30 mins on the eliptical I have lost 1/2 a pound, everytime! My goal for the last two weeks of July is to increase my workouts to 5 times a week of eliptical, 30 mins & weights m, w, f and 45 mins & sit ups t, th. That is the goal.
So far I have lost 60.5 lbs and over 22 inches. I would suggest this type of cardo if you can do it, it works!!!

I get the plain fage yoguart and add splenda, I get it at HEB in Houston. If I can't find it at other stores I get the "greek" yoguart, these have 14 grams of protein per serving, Walmart sometimes has it. I guess I meant crackers and not bread for the Wasa, I get them at my local grocery store. I had complications from a VBG I had 9/05. I have lost a total of 180 pounds to date, my revision was lap RNY.

I forgot to add my water, I take sips pretty much all day and don't drink before or after my meals. I like to make decaff tea with splenda as well. I take Centrum liquid vitimins every morning with a B-12 sublingual, at night I take my calicum caltriate.

Hi Dawn, a typical day for me:
wake up (6:30 am)- 1/4 egg beater with a little cheese and sometimes half a piece of whole grain toast
9am- 1 oz string cheese with no sugar added apple sauce and 1 piece waza toast (if I did not have toast for breakfast)
12 noon-turkey wrap with low carb tortilla and tomatoes, or weigh****chers or lean cuisine meal, edame (soy pods)
3pm-fresh fruit cup, cottage cheese or nuts
6pm- balanced dinner with lean beef, chicken or fish, a veggie and small amount of whole grain pasta or brown rice, or small potatoe.
If I need more protein or If I am hungry I will have some fage yoguart with stawberries
I only use a protein supplements if I am running short on my protein for the day (doctors orders), I usually get in around 65-75 grams. I had my revision on 3/6/08, I have lost 37 pounds, 10 pounds away from my personal goal I set 3 years ago!

Hello DAwn, I'm 6 days after you, but thought I'd answer anyway!
Since I lost 57 lbs pre-op I expected my post-op losses to be slower than average. I've lost 49 of the 139 lbs I had to lose on teh day of my operation. Tomorrow I expect to break 50 lbs lost. (I'm having a pee-marathon today). This will put me at 89 lbs left to lose once I hit that 50 lb loss (or 107 lbs from maximum). My goal is to lose 70 pounds, or 50% of my excess weight on the day of surgery, by my 6-month mark. This means I have about 2 months to lose 21 lbs.
My typical day includes 2 protein shakes (180 calories), 2 turkey salads (440 calories), and 2 propels (60 calories) as well as 1/4 cup of nuts (130 calories). This is approximately 810 calories, with some fluctuation. Once I start back to school I expect to have a protein bar in place of one of my salads, which will decrease my total calorie intake.
My school schedule goes something like:
Wake up and take 2 fiber tabs, 1 multivitamin, Calcium, and occasionally 1/2 protein bar.
A.M: 24 ounce beverage in addition to 24 ounce protein shake w/calcium
Lunch Time: 1/2 protein bar or 150-ish lunch
P.M: 24 ounce beverage in addition to 24 ounce protein shake w/calcium
Dinner: Small meal approximately 300 or fewer calories, multivitamin, biotin, B-12
After dinner: 24 ounce beverage & B-complex
Snack: 1/4 cup of nuts, vitamin C, and iron.
The only complications I've had include:
2-weeks of severe itchies as I was allergic to teh surgical tape, and had hives from head to toe.
1 vomiting episode relating to processed "pressed chicken breast", another close call with the same type of food item. (now struck from my list of acceptable foods).
Lactose Intolerance and dumping with milk. (I've given up milk & lactaid, which still makes me dump)
dumping in general ... had a cookie today... bad move.

Topic: RE: help schedule
Not sure to whom you refer, so I'll give you my eating schedule, as well as vitamin and liquid schedule. Hope it helps.
I wake up in the morning and the first thing I have is:
1 multivitamine (Viactiv), 1 citracal creamy bite (calcium), and two Sugar-free Fiber Choice Chews
Then I often have 1/2 of a protein bar. I like the Atkins Advantage chocolate peanut butter bars.
A half hour after the protein bar I start in on my first protein shake of the day. In my protein shake I have 1 scoop of nectar protein, 1 scoop of UpCalD (calcium) and one packet of a complementary flavor of crystal light, all mixed in 24 ounces of liquid. I sip on that for a couple of hours.
After my protein shake, I start drinking another 24 ounces of liquid. Propel is my absolute favorite.
For lunch, if I'm at school, I have the other half of the protein bar, otherwise if I'm home (like now) I have a yummy turkey salad. (2 oz Turkey, 1/2 oz cheese, 3 olives, 2 baby corn, 1 non-marinated artichoke heart, 1 1/2 inch cucumber peeled and sliced, and 1 tbsp low-fat, low-sugar salad dressing).
half an hour after lunch another protein shake like the first one. And another 24 ounce drink, if possible.
In mid-afternoon I get home from work and I have another multivitamin, some sublingual B-12, and a sublingual Biotin. I have a "snack" and half an hour later I have some more liquid.
Dinner is usually something small. I often skip it and have a snack of 1/4 cup of nuts along with my B-Complex, Iron, and vitamin C
With the protein shakes, bars and food I get from 75 to 100 grams of protein daily.
With the protein shakes I can also count that as liquid, so I drink from 96 to 120 ounces of liquid, minimum, each day.
My vitamin regimen includes the multivitamin, 1500 mg calcium citrate, B-12, B-complex, Iron, Vitamin C, and biotin.
