Topic: RE: is everyone on liquids for 2 weeks and protien drinks?
My surgery is 3/10 and I only have to be on full liquid diet for 1 week whi*****ludes high protein drinks (blended with low cal fruits if I want) , creamed soups, cream of wheat, sf jello and the rest of the wonderful clear liquid stuff. My surgeon requires 2 weeks if BMI above 50 though. I was told the reason for the liquid diet is to shrink the liver for surgery. The liver becomes fatty from high fat foods and will remain large if not somewhat cleansed prior to surgery. I met a women the other night who had to do the 2 week liquid diet and actually lost 30 lbs prior to surgery. Well, that's a nice bonus. She had surgery in August and has lost 115 lbs so far. Starting wt was 330 . Best of luck. Dotti
Topic: March 4th Surgery Date
Hi there my fellow March surgery people! I was originally a Feb 15th surgery girl but the scheduler made a mistake and scheduled me for a day my surgeon wouldn't even be there, so here I am. Finished all my last preop bloodwork and paperwork yesterday, so I'm all set for surgery now. Mine has been a long time coming. Been researching for a long time, and with us being a military family, my husband wanted me to wait to have surgery until he was in the same country as I am. So after a move in August to here in Washington state and him not deploying again anytime real soon, it's finally my turn. Nice to meet you all and good luck with your upcoming surgeries and I wish you all a speedy recovery.
Topic: RE: I have A Date!
Hi Tammy.. I have mine on the 20th as well! How I will cope with the excitement, I have no idea... let me know what works for you
Topic: Finally I have a date... March 20th
I dont think I can begin to tell you how excited I am.... no nerves YET! The process didn't take long for me at all, since December 28, 2007. I was asked to loose 15 pounds before meeting with the surgeon and I lost 22lbs... so NO LIQUID DIET for me! That was probably just as great of news as scheduling the date. I cant recall the last time I was this happy!
Topic: RE: New March 17 Person!
I don't have to do the liquid diet, etc. Nothing by mouth from 6pm on that Sunday into Monday. I have to take my morning pills before coming to the hospital.
I do have to have an EKG tomorrow as when I had it done several months ago, the tech had a problem which has been documented so there is a little hiccup on the graph. They want to make sure everything is 100%.
Then I have to do the pre-op admissions in the next week or so whi*****ludes ECG, blood work, physcial, meet with anthesia doc, etc.
Relatively painless (ha, ha!).
I am getting excited! I wish I could get my brain to shut off at night though!

my surgery is march 19th and next wed I have to start a 2 week 800cal/day liquid diet. Absolutly dreading it, but at least my husband offered to do it with me so I won't be miserable alone.
