It's so nice to meet you! I'm starting to think that while One-der-land by my birthday is not possible, perhaps a BMI of 35 is possible (that would put me at 204 lbs). I have 22 lbs to lose to get there, and almost three months to do it in. Right now I'm in the "rapid weight loss" phase of my monthly cycle... losing anywhere from 1/2 to a full pound every time I sleep (even if it's a nap!). Sadly that phase doesn't last very long, but it's very encouraging when it happens.

I can totally relate to the trauma of having teenagers. Hubby and I just graduated one of his daughters, and we have the house to ourselves, and boy is it a relief. (she's back living with her mom)

Panda, one thing I love is that there are so many different weight-loss-surgery options... each can choose the one that is most right for lifestyle and future plans. What's funny is that I feel like I am losing slowly most of the time.... but then when I look at the totals, I'm shocked. I'm three pounds away from my 50% EWL point, and it feels darn good. If I ignore all the hanging skin, I actually am starting to see a sexy thin woman emerging!

Nice also to meet another "local" ... I considered Blackstone but the waiting time for her would not fit in with my needs, and Dr. J. had a very good reputation too.

I think the most notable difference for me is how it has altered my own job performance. I prefer to stand rather than sit, and I'm more interactive with my students now than ever before. (I teach high school math)

I am glad to read some of the stories of the people here. I am 47, married with two kids, 12 and 16. The sixteen year old is really trying our patience to say the least. He is driving me crazy too! I have always had a tendancy towards gainning weight, did weigh****chers when I gained 40 pounds. Then after two kids, I lost the weight and got down to an ideal weight each time. Then, tragedy struck and some bad things happened, and I guess I never thought twice that all those bowls of cereal and anxiety eating would catch up to me. I am 5'6" and started my journey at 223 pounds. I tried all sorts of plans and diets.
I got a Realize band Feb. 28th of this year. I am so envious of all you RNY's for losing so quickly, but my loss is slow and steady, so that will have to be good enough. To date I have lost 27 pounds, and am in onderland!! Yeah.
I work as a nurse and squeeze excerscise in as much as I can. My goal is to get back to 140, which will look pretty darned good!

I'm only just moving into a size 18 myself, so can't help you. Have you tried any goodwill or second hand stores?

I love this great new forum style!

Now everyone has to make sure they have cool avatars and great signatures! :)

Oh and check out the SMILEYs!

SO... how's everyone doing? I'm 5 months, a week and a few days... I did lose 57 lbs pre-op and right now I'm down a total of 121 lbs. (64 postop)

I'm down from a size 28 to a tight 18 or loose 20. Shoe size down from 8 1/2 W to 7 1/2. Ring size down from 10 1/2 to 6 1/2.

I'm off all my meds, and LOVING being on my feet.

Can't even imagine how I'll feel in 74 lbs.

My current mini-goal is to lose 50% of my surgery-day Extra Weight by my 6 month surgiversary. I have six pounds to go and have no doubts I'll get there!

Next mini-goal (not so sure I'll make this one) is to lose 30 lbs by November 24th which is my 40th birthday. I'll accept losing those 30 lbs by January 1st.

The BIG goal is to lose 139 lbs post op by my 14 month anniversary. That would put me at 154 lbs. Last time I weighed below 198 I was 15 years old.

SO what's up in YOUR life?

Hello All... Just wanted to ask if anyone out in OH land may have any size 18 clothes that you are ready to get rid of?  I'm looking for some fall/winter clothes for work or just plain everyday clothes.

Hi, My name is Paula and I'm a financial aid administrator. I'm 42 years old and have been married almost 18 years. I have a 16 year old son who is driving me crazy!! Some days I want to pull my hair out!! My surgery date was March 28, 2008 and I had lapRNY. I've lost 75 lbs to date (should be more, but I re-gained the 35lbs I lost during the 6 month diet phase because it took so long for my insurance to get approved and, of course during that break was Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas!). I feel like my weight loss is really slow. I work out 3 times a week (do the eliptical for 35-45 minutes like a crazy lady -- i come out of the gym looking red faced and sweaty - but I feel great!). I know I need to add weight training -- but time is always my problem --seems there is never enough of it and always too much to do! I want to lose another 55 lbs and hope to be in 'onederland' by my birthday too (November 1st) -- but I'm not sure that will happen since it's 30 lbs away. I'm 5'8" and my surgeon says my ideal weight is 135 -- but I just can't see that ever happening -- I think I would look anorexic at that weight -so my initial goal is 175 and we'll see how I feel when I get there. It would be great if this list started to take off. I feel a little 'lost' on the main board! Thanks for asking Lady Lithia!

I'm 27 years old and I had my RNY 5 months ago today. I started inquiring about gastric bypass a year ago. It took me a while to start my 6 month supervised diet and I finished it in February. I had RNY the first day of spring break. I went back to work the next week 1/2 days and then by the 2nd week I was back full time, but taking it very easy. My highest weight was 325 and I was 306 day of surgery. I currently weigh 230, so about 95 lbs. total (since Jan. 2008) and about 74 total since surgery. I'm mostly happy about the loss, but wi**** was a little bit faster. I lost a lot of weight real fast, but the past 3 months I've only lost 15 lbs. I think once school starts and I'm back to work I'll lose more. I hope to be onederland by my birthday for sure (mid-December). I've been married for 3 years. to my high school sweetheart (who met me when I weighed 110, yes the man def. loves me). I'm a special education teacher at the elementary level and I just moved to Spring, Texas from Arlington, Texas. I'm living with my mom right now while my hubby is looking for work in the area. We moved here to be near family since my family lives in the area and so does his. We're hoping to have children in the next few years. I injured my knee badly at work in early Nov. I had knee surgery in Jan. and it's still hurting me, esp. now that I'm being more active with the weight loss. I'm still seeking treatment, so that part has been hard. I'm also losing hair right now, but I hope that goes away soon. Otherwise, no complications and no problems.

Hi Thanks alot for your support and comments. I did find based on BMI I should be 134, based on height and weight I should be 141-146 and based on people in my age group, they described their ideal weight at 154 lbs. It is neat to hear how other people decide their goal weight (not just on BMI) when lots of us can not remember what a normal weight was.... thanks again Diane

I am the height you used to be, so going off that, let me tell you how I chose my own goal weight. According to the charts I should be 134... a number too ridiculous to contemplate. However I have two things going against me... I'm big boned and genetically my butt will ALWAYS be big. I found a chart somewhere that suggested that if you are very large boned (I am, there's an inch and a half gap between thumb and forefinger when I try to put my fingers around my wrist). So using an insurance chart I found somewhere on the net, I set my goal weight at a realistic 154. Very likely weight for me to reach as optimal. My BMI will be in the overweight range at that point. Of course I stepped on a tanita scale with a full readout once (about 80 pounds ago) and according to the Tanita, if I weigh 174 that's the smallest I can expect to get without lopping off some extra skin and things. For now what I do is make mini goals. I often don't make them, but they're fun anyway. For example, I made a goal of losing 50% of my excess weight by my six month surgiversary. (based on my personal ideal of 154), and I've still got a month to go and I'm within 8 pounds of my goal! Congratulations on your weight loss.... sounds like you're doing great!!!
