i had surgery on 03-06-08 and now believe I should be eating pureed and creamy foods. I ate some canned cream soup and got really sick. How do I find recipes for pureed foods?

Its amazing the amount of food we consume without even thinking about it! The "chew and spit" works well, but becareful being so early out as its easy to forget and something will go down. Things will change now that you've had surgery smells might be too strong, taste buds might be out of wack for a little while or from now on.. only time will tell either way the weight loss reward is so worth it I'm 2 years out and still have issues with the smell of canned foods.. I thought I was going crazy at first, but then found out it happens. Just depends on the person i guess As for the soaked gauze. I wouldn't wait for tomorrow I'd call immediately to make sure your stapels/stitches (the ones inside and out) haven't been ruptured. good luck!

Topic: JP Drain - Leakage at site
I guess my first and foremost question is, has anyone occurred a leakage at the site where the tube goes into your stomach? Today when I woke up, my nightgown was stained at the site and it continued throughout the day until almost bedtime. I removed at least 7 soaked gauze pads at the site. Now I have my doctor's follow-up appointment tomorrow so I will have the answer, however just wondered if anyone had a similar experience. Also some weird things. I now smell phantom odors. I made dinner for my family today (meatloaf and garlic rosemary potatoes) and the smell of garlic never seemed to leave from my blouse (despite asking people to smell it to see if they could smell what I smelled!)! This has never happened to me before. Also, as a seasoned cook/baker, the "knee-jerk" reaction is to taste your food to see if it's right. I am 6 days out of surgery - and made angel hair pasta and of course in order to check for doneness I put a few strands in my mouth, chewed it up (yes, it was done) and to my horror, just before I swallowed, I realized what I had done! I promptly spit it out. Just a reminder to be cognizant of those knee jerk reactions - those things you have done all of your life without even thinking... ya just can't do that anymore without thinking first!

I REALLY understand your frustration and pain. I have the same back problems and I just had my WLS surgery this week. Listen, you did not do anything wrong and you had a medical issue that prevented you from exercising. Your Dr. was probably having a bad day or just was a complete moran. Here is what I would do if I were you, I would call the surgeron that did your WLS (because he know the most about you) and make an appointment to see him. Bring your medical records regarding your back prognosis and do not feel bad or embaressed. You need to sit in that chair and demand the best medical care that you can to get yourself back on track. If he is rude and condesending to you, tell him that you will report him because all you are asking for is competent medical care. People learn to treat you by how you react to what they say. Do not take any crap from any Dr. We all make mistakes with our health and it is their job to help us when we need help. DO NOT BE EMBARRESSED! Get in there and make them take take care of you. YOU DESERVE IT. You deserve not to be in pain and you deserve to be skinny. You also got to do you part to get there. You can even get a few Dr.'s names on the OH website by clicking on "finding a baratric surgeon" click on your state and research some Dr's that are near you and that may be covered by your insurance. Then you can name drop at your appointment. Stand up for yourself and put that Dr. in his place. Back problems are very painful and you are limited with exercise, but nobody can help you, if you do not make them! Give that Dr. the kick in the butt he needs! You will feel so good after you walk in there with your head up and get what you need. Do not duck and hide, rather stand up and demand the care you deserve! I will be here if you need anything.

I think the questioning and fears are normal. I am going through the same thing. That panic comes before anything that will change your life. I know I also worried when I was pregnant with my first child about what kind of mom I would be. Heck I even questioned it on my fourth child, but that was cause he had lots of problems stemming from being adopted at an older age. I remember when I turned in the key to my apartment right before getting married, I had a moment of panic. Of course I panic everytime I leave a hotel room, convinced I am forgetting something, LOL. I think it's normal to get nervous when you are doing something that will change your life. This will change us, we won't be able to eat the way we used to. We won't be able to celebrate with something fattening, we won't be able to drown our sorrows in a tub of ice cream. We are starting new. It's going to be scary, but we will get through it. It seems like we have a pretty good group here going through it together! We can get through this! Lorraine
