Topic: RE: Surgery on Thursday!!!!
Hey there Jenn,
Good Luck on Thurs. You will be fine. I had my surgery on March 3 and did ok. My advice would be if you have a support group husband , friend or family. Take them up on any assistance they will offer. Everyone handles the pain differently. My husband and I have a 14yr and 1yr old. He was driving across town taking care of the kids and working and I was taking care of myself. The pain is more than I had expected but each day does get better. It is a slow process but I have no regrets and am writing to you from work which I returned to on Monday.
Keep a positive attitude and you will do great!
Take care
Rita
Topic: xpost 1 week post check up
hi all... so i had my one week check up yesterday.... i was so excited to get the drain and staples out... yet noone told me they would leave one staple in each line.... lol.. whats up with that eh?? so i have to go back next week... now for the big news.... drum roll pleaseeeeee...... on feb 14 at preop i was 296 in clothes, on surgery day i was 281 nekkid, and yesterday at doc i was 278 with clothes, so i figure it was 273 nekkid as thats how i will be weighing each week...... sooooo.. thats 20 pounds in one month and 8 pounds since surgery..... at first i was bummed but then the nurse told me most people gain weight due to the fluids given and not to look at the scale... but to see 278 clothes or not??????? HOLY CARUMBA BATMAN!!!!! and like most here i was thinking i was gonna be the one person that it would not work for!!!!!!
AND to top it off... i got to sleep in a real bed for the first time..... a REAL bed... first time since surgery... and guess what?? i slept 13 hours..... scared the beegeebers outta my boyfriend as my phone was off..... sorry DBF.... anyway.... all good reports.... and lots of excitement....
have a great day!!!

Topic: RE: Had my surgery!!!
The surgery went very well. The only bad thing is the soreness, which is to be expected. I had it on Monday and i've been sipping water, juices, eating ice, and broths, and I really haven't felt hungry. It is kinda hard seeing fast food commercials on TV, but for the most part, other than soreness, I'm feeling fine. Yesterday, I even walked (slowly) through the mall. I had to go slow and take a few breaks, but it's good to walk. Expect to feel the most soreness where the port is placed. But it isn't unbearable pain....Just soreness. Good luck on your surgery, and don't worry, they give you goooooood pain meds!!! LOL

Hi!
It has been so long since I have posted. I had WLS in Aug 2005 at St. Margarets Hospital. I lost little over 100 lbs and the scale is starting to creep back up. I have thought about having a revision but I know that is not the answer for me. I have a problem and I need help. I am a food addict. I live in the Pittsburgh area, can anyone recommend a counselor or therapist who specializes in WLS and Food Addiction?
I am also not happy with the follow-up care I am getting from my surgeon. Dont get me wrong, he saved my life by doing the surgery but there are I feel better practices out there. I am leaning toward changing to Dr. Eid at Magee. Any feed back in that area would be greatly appreciated.

My best suggestion to you as a social worker is to make sure you have plenty of support around you and to have a plan for a bad day. This is not impossible.

I am one week out and doing pretty well. People keep expressing their shock at how well I am doing. But I don't feel like I could go back to work. I'm going to take another two weeks and make sure I am rested and have a handle on my schedule and eating.

I am one of the lucky ones that work is flexible and I get paid sick leave. However, I am a bit of a workaholic and have quite a bit of work to do so I agreed to work that second week from home. What have people been taking for recoop time from work? For those of you who have had surgery... do you think a week of recoop and a week working from home is pushing it? I have no clue what to expect yet have to plan these things out ahead of time. Any advice would be greatly appreciated Thanks my little WLS family! I hope everyone is feeling great!!! Praying for all of you!
