Topic: NEW TO ALL THIS?NEED HELP!
Hi everyone, my name is joann and I'm in the process of getting ready to have gastric bypass surgery with Dr.Michael kia in flint michigan out of mclaren hospital. He's a good young surgeon and I wondered if anyone has had surgery with him and what they think?I am also a nurse at another hospital in the area that does not do bariatric surgery, but that Dr.Kia performs surgery at,and he seems very good with his patients.I'm scared, but know I need to move forward to get my life back.I was denied the surgery by hurley hospital in flint michigan because I had melanoma cancer two years ago.So my only choice in the area was mclaren, their program and staff seem so caring and knowlegable. But would feel better if anyone has already been through this with them and could let me know how they feel. Thanks ahead of time for any information. Sincerely, joann

Topic: RE: Home from RNY
Congrats! Hope you continue to feel better and stronger every day. I had my surgery 3/19/08 - in Ohio. I guess different surgeons do things differently. I had surgery on Wed...came home on Friday. I'm curious how long your surgeon will you have to do full liquids? Mine says 20 days!

Gas-Ex! They have strips that disolve on your tounge. I had revision to RNY 3/6 and it has helped so much!

Topic: RE: Iron Deficiency Anemia
Hi Gail,
I am almost 5 years old RNY and also have iron deficiency anemia. I had a problem with absorption and also with terrible stomach cramps caused by taking iron. I have had two iron infusions in the past three years, and that seems to have taken care of it. I also developed leukopenia/neutropenia which seems to be related to the WLS and am following up on that... has something to do with low white blood count. I ended up having a problem with clotting if I cut myself, etc. Hope this info helps.
Good luck!
Kathy

I thought I would stop in and tell you all good luck, and strap your seat belts in. You are in for a fantastic ride. I am 43 yrs old 5"7 I started out this journey 3/27/2006 and 278lbs. I am now around 130lbs. I actually would like to gain a little back. I was a size 24 pant when I started out and now I'm a size 2. I just thought I would let you know the journey has just begun and you will get out of this what you put into it it. Just follow the rules..Good luck
Topic: RE: 3rd day POST op BREAKDOWN!
I had surgery at 9am on Tuesday morning. It's the following Saturday and no BM yet.
But I'm not at all hungry and find it hard to manage all the shakes & water they want me to take. I know I'm allowed one "food" - ie. jello, pudding, etc. a day but I just find that after I do all the water & shakes the day is over and I don't have any interest anyway.
I wouldn't worry about the BM part, but for being hungry all the time - perhaps it's head hunger instead of stomache hunger? Or perhaps something is up and you should go back to the hospital for some more testing? If you do get an ultrasound of the bowels at least it will give you peace of mind - which will definately help with your confidence with the surgery and yourself. Or perhaps they will find something is up and get you on your way to a healthy repair before anything goes REALLY wrong.
Keep us updated, and I'll send healthy thoughts your way.
Best of luck.
