We have multiple support groups each month. there are 4 or 5 I think. I am attending as many as I can right now.

I have only been to one support group meeting. It was in Nov and I really enjoyed it. There was no meeting in Dec and then next one is in two weeks. I am ready to talk with more people in my area!

I am aiming for March due to work schedule.
So, who else out there is scheduled, or wanting to have WLS in March.
I am waiting on approval, but since my BMI is so high I am not too worried.
I am pushing towards the DS.
What is everyone else looking at?
My friend had the DS last May and she is doing awesome. I only hope I do as well as she does.
I started going to group meetings in November and the group has taught me alot. I am looking forward to our January meeting.

Hi Stacy,
A blood clot is a risk of surgery, period. And Peggy is dead on about the need to move. My understanding is that within a couple hours of the recovery room, they will have us walking the hallways. LOL, maybe we should bring our running shoes to the hospital!

I understand completely! I don't envy your work at this time of year either. If it makes you feel any better, I got my approval in Nov, but the schedule of the surgeon is such that March is what it is. I could go next week and be thrilled, but he is booked solid.

I am having rny but to avoid a blood clot you need to move. Some lap band patients get sent home the same day as the surgery. If your doctor does that make sure once you are home you keep getting up and walking around. That keeps the blood circulating in your legs and helps avoid blood clots. If you still feel concerned make sure they let you know what the symptoms are so you identify a potential problme before it gets bad.

Janice,
I have been getting very edgy because if it were not for my work load at my job I would be having my surgery either this comming week or next week. But I am an accountant and January is when we process year end close and then in February it is the first month close of the new year. That is why even though I got my insurance approval December 13th I am waiting for March.

I will be finished with my 6 month pre op diet in Feb. I have an appointment with the surgeon on the 22 of Feb. I am so eager to have this surgery. However, I am a little stressed with it aswell. I know that I need to have this done cause I have tried for 9 years to get this stubborn weight off by myself and its always the same thing. Lose the weight then turn around and gain it right back. There is only one thing that I am worried about with the lap-band and that is the fact of a blood clot. Can anyone out there help to ease my fears with this so I feel a little more at ease with having this done?

Hey Janice,
She is just over a month out at this time and thus far, it's been ok. We have two little ones so (amazingly) she still prepares meals for them everyday. Small children don't understand and of course still expect (and deserve) to be fed as before. I still eat pretty much as before. She tells me it doesn't bother her for me to eat in front of her, which I find hard to believe.
At this point, she has just started to eat "regular" food. Last night we took the kids to Mcdonald's. She ordered a cheeseburger for herself along with everything for me and the kids. She was able to eat about 60% of the patty and about half of the bun before she said she felt really full. She can tolerate (now) just about anything the rest of the family eats (except steak, starchy foods, or spicy food) and that makes it alot easier. I hope I'm so lucky!
The only downside has been a real lack of energy on her part. This was coverd in the presugical materials, however, she didn't think it would hit her as she's always been really energetic. She has been reassured by her doc and by other people who have been through, that it temporary.
