Returning to Work after RNY
Need some advice from you post ops. How soon are you planning on returning to work? I am a high school computer teacher and am trying to plan how long I will be out. I wont be doing any lifting. My kids (students) are great and I can sit when tired. Really hoping to go back to work 10 days post op. Any advice?
Hi Kim,
It really depends on the type of surgery you have. Will this be Lap or open? Lap recovery from what I have read is a lot faster than open. But remember you will have an entire new way of eating and that does take some time getting used to. I plan on taking at the very least 2 weeks for lap surgery and 4 for open. Talk to your Dr he/she is the one that will decided when your ready to return to work. I wish you well and will keep you in my prayers.

I also teach and due to coaching, etc. took two weeks.
I had a great sub who is a retired teacher who taught my subject and I had the benefit of having a student teacher in my classroom.
I worried about nothing.
I took 2 weeks, including Easter Break. surgery was 3/6 and I returned 3/25.
I have not had any problems and feel great after being back for a week.
I was pretty much done come Friday, but I also coach and was at a competition until 8pm Friday.
I had Lap RYN and they removed my gallbladder. No other complications.
Open surgery will require you to take more time to heal.
I hope your surgery goes as well as mine did!!!
