3rd day POST op BREAKDOWN!
Ok I'm having my break down, figured I'd bring you along for thr ride.
So, When I had my upper GI I was told to swallow that stuff SEVERAL times, I kinda got the feeling that at some point it wasnt going where it was supposed to go...why would they continuly have me drinking. Then the guy say's to me "well, Im not going to have you drink anymore, what Im seeing with you is not all that uncommon " If they need to know anything more they can have an abodiminal ultra sound down later...."
Now mind you I was still VERY drugged, in and out of sleep at this point. But then I was taken into the step down unit so I didnt think to much further about it.
Fast forward to now...My surgery was Wed. I havent yet had a Bowel Movement, is this normal>? I know some people that had to have one before they left the hospital?
Ok...
Now, I have heard so many thing's about how your pouch feel's following surgery. None of which is anything like mine and Im concerned. You see I went through the agony of being hungry for 5 day's prior to surgery knowing that following surgery I wouldnt be that hungry. With that small pouch, Id barely be hungry and it wouldnt take much to fill me up...NOT THE CASE WITH ME.
I'M VERY HUNGRY!!!!! I have been eating a MEASURED 2 ounces of food every two and a half hours, water and any med's inbetween. I have YET TO GET FULL, and as a matter of fact Im really hungry. It's not in my head, my stomach is even growling.
Now all of these thing's combined really concern me...I called up to ward 4 f since the clinic was closed today and they said they had nothing to offer me as far as answer's, basicly they were there to fill space on a holiday...
Someone help
Brandi~
I am sorry you are going through so much. It is normal not to have a BM. I have had diarhhea since Saturday due to what I drank for my upper GI. I am totally not hungry...did a 2 week liquid diet before. And certain smells make me nauseaus (sp).
I had surgery on the 20th. I am allowed 4 oz of protein shakes at each meal...start today and they want between 30 and 60 oz of water..that is hard for me.
Hugs,
Dori
Hi Brandi... I am sorry you are going through such a hard time with this. Are you taking in the 50grams of protein and 64oz of fluids (including protein shakes)? If you are and still going through these hunger pains.. try to talk to your Dr. THey can maybe move you into stage 3 a little sooner... like some baby food, jello, sugar free popcicles, cream of wheats, creamy soups. Trust me it does seem super frustrating but you can do this!!!
Unlike Dori, the smells for me are equally as tempting as they were before the surgery. So I am still having cravings and tempatations but I know that if they go past these lips... I will get sick as a dog and that is enought to keep me away. Also, I just went out to get my very first scale and am down 17 lbs since the 18th so I am so psyched that it doesn't even cross my mind to eat anything other than what I must. Call the Dr. and see what they recommend... for now... try more consistency like sugar free jellos and soups. Good luck honey.. and dont get discouraged... you will be fine!
I had surgery at 9am on Tuesday morning. It's the following Saturday and no BM yet.
But I'm not at all hungry and find it hard to manage all the shakes & water they want me to take. I know I'm allowed one "food" - ie. jello, pudding, etc. a day but I just find that after I do all the water & shakes the day is over and I don't have any interest anyway.
I wouldn't worry about the BM part, but for being hungry all the time - perhaps it's head hunger instead of stomache hunger? Or perhaps something is up and you should go back to the hospital for some more testing? If you do get an ultrasound of the bowels at least it will give you peace of mind - which will definately help with your confidence with the surgery and yourself. Or perhaps they will find something is up and get you on your way to a healthy repair before anything goes REALLY wrong.
Keep us updated, and I'll send healthy thoughts your way.
Best of luck.
