JP Drain - Leakage at site

I guess my first and foremost question is, has anyone occurred a leakage at the site where the tube goes into your stomach? Today when I woke up, my nightgown was stained at the site and it continued throughout the day until almost bedtime. I removed at least 7 soaked gauze pads at the site. Now I have my doctor's follow-up appointment tomorrow so I will have the answer, however just wondered if anyone had a similar experience. Also some weird things. I now smell phantom odors. I made dinner for my family today (meatloaf and garlic rosemary potatoes) and the smell of garlic never seemed to leave from my blouse (despite asking people to smell it to see if they could smell what I smelled!)! This has never happened to me before. Also, as a seasoned cook/baker, the "knee-jerk" reaction is to taste your food to see if it's right. I am 6 days out of surgery - and made angel hair pasta and of course in order to check for doneness I put a few strands in my mouth, chewed it up (yes, it was done) and to my horror, just before I swallowed, I realized what I had done! I promptly spit it out. Just a reminder to be cognizant of those knee jerk reactions - those things you have done all of your life without even thinking... ya just can't do that anymore without thinking first!

Its amazing the amount of food we consume without even thinking about it! The "chew and spit" works well, but becareful being so early out as its easy to forget and something will go down. Things will change now that you've had surgery smells might be too strong, taste buds might be out of wack for a little while or from now on.. only time will tell either way the weight loss reward is so worth it I'm 2 years out and still have issues with the smell of canned foods.. I thought I was going crazy at first, but then found out it happens. Just depends on the person i guess As for the soaked gauze. I wouldn't wait for tomorrow I'd call immediately to make sure your stapels/stitches (the ones inside and out) haven't been ruptured. good luck!

i had the same problem with my drain tube. It was just a clear liquid coming out of the hole making everything I wore wet, and dried crusty on my belly. However it did then become red around the site and painful. It was getting infected. It is good that you are having it removed tomorrow, you should be fine after that.
