I have had WLS IN JUNE OF 06. I have lost a tremendous amout of weight ,but still not at my goal yet, I had SPINAL SURGERY July it has been almost a year since that was done. my problem is that right after the WLS, well before the WLS I was having back problems and the Dr. that I was seeing concerning m y back was treating me for a PINCHED NERVE. So of course I was going to therpy taking all sorts of medications,ok fine, So then I went in for my WLS, was doing really great feeling good because I had lost a very good amount of weight going to the gym, and doing what was suppose to done right after the WLS. So my back pain started gettingvery paingfull againI slacke up going to the gym because some mornings I just could not get out of bed, but I would keep my appointments with my WLS Dr. aagain all was fine. until one day I went to see my Dr. and he was VERY,VERY,VERYYYYYYYYYY!!!!! UPSET WITH ME. I left his office in TEARS! and went home crying to my husband, told him that my weight just stopI mean I had not lost the proper weight that I was suppose to have lost, my Dr. asked me am i going to the gym like I'm suppose to I said no, because My back was giving me alot of problemsand there were times when I could not get out of bed because of the severe pain. I guess he thought it was an excuse, but it was'nt,I was so upset with him as he was with me and just never WENT BACK TO HIM. OK TO MAKE THIS VERY LONG STORY SHORTWHICH THERE IS ALOT MORE TO IT.i could not get out of be which means I could not move my legs at all. went to the hospital emergency hospital they ran test and found out it was not a pinched nerve that my lower lumbar i think it was the 1st 3rd and 4th lumbar was crushed.now I just need so help in finding another Dr. know one can seem to help me.just cant bring myself to going back to my WLS because i feel so embrassed havnet been back in a long time and just gave up PLEASE HELP ME GOING CRAZY!!!!!!!!!!

Try posting on the main message board. This one is for those who are having surgery this month, but the main board has lots of people who seem to be able to answer any kind of question. Good luck and sorry for all your pain. I have 3 herniated lower discs and I know that the gym is going to be a challenge for me. Hope you find someone to help in your area. Use a heading like, Need good doctor in nyc area or something like that to get their attention. Hope you feel better soon. Dotti

I REALLY understand your frustration and pain. I have the same back problems and I just had my WLS surgery this week. Listen, you did not do anything wrong and you had a medical issue that prevented you from exercising. Your Dr. was probably having a bad day or just was a complete moran. Here is what I would do if I were you, I would call the surgeron that did your WLS (because he know the most about you) and make an appointment to see him. Bring your medical records regarding your back prognosis and do not feel bad or embaressed. You need to sit in that chair and demand the best medical care that you can to get yourself back on track. If he is rude and condesending to you, tell him that you will report him because all you are asking for is competent medical care. People learn to treat you by how you react to what they say. Do not take any crap from any Dr. We all make mistakes with our health and it is their job to help us when we need help. DO NOT BE EMBARRESSED! Get in there and make them take take care of you. YOU DESERVE IT. You deserve not to be in pain and you deserve to be skinny. You also got to do you part to get there. You can even get a few Dr.'s names on the OH website by clicking on "finding a baratric surgeon" click on your state and research some Dr's that are near you and that may be covered by your insurance. Then you can name drop at your appointment. Stand up for yourself and put that Dr. in his place. Back problems are very painful and you are limited with exercise, but nobody can help you, if you do not make them! Give that Dr. the kick in the butt he needs! You will feel so good after you walk in there with your head up and get what you need. Do not duck and hide, rather stand up and demand the care you deserve! I will be here if you need anything.

What an unkind doctor. I would find myself a new surgeon if I were you. It has taken me 6 years to find a good surgeon, PCP, and GI doctor. When we are complicated or different, it's hard to find good docs. But they are out there. God bless you, Sandy [email protected]

I do agree with Sandy that youe should get another Dr after you confront your orginal WLS surgeron and are not happy with his attitude. At least if you confront him and get what you need to have closure to the relationship and feel good about standing up for yourself. Some Dr.'s are really not bad people, they think that tough love is going to kick you in gear and some patients are more sensitive than others. I had a Dr. that looked at me and said, "so your fat, what are you going to do about it?" I cried and then realized, hey he was right and I did something about it. That was the first time someone called me fat to my face and I had seen like 5 Dr.'s. Sometimes there is a reason that Dr.'s act the way they do, but I think it is your responsiblity to give your WLS surgeon a fair shake because he was the one that operated on you and know what the heck is going on in your body. If it is not possible because of personality conflicts, then say "NEXT". you have that right, but please give it your all because I bet that Dr, wants you to succeed as much as you do because he has something invested in it as well. If you succeed, then you both succeed.

This is the best place to come when things like this happen. Because no want anyone can say, "they just can't understand what a post op is going through". Unless of course they laid on an OR table and had the surgery done to themselves. Keep the faith, Sandy
