This 2 week diet is killing me. My hubby does not cook and I have 4 boys I have to cook for. I catch myself taking a bite of this or a sip of that, to test it, to make sure it tastes right, then I remember I am not supposed to be doing that. HELP, my surgery is 3/17 and my preop testing is 3/10, I hope they clear me for everything for the diet!

Hey my surgery is 3/17 also , my doc does not require a 2 week liquid , he says he doesnt want us doing it cuz we have to do it after, he only has us doing the day before only clear liquids. But for some docs its so your body and your mind can get used to it. my pre-op testing is on 3/11 ....and i gota loose 7lbs before my surgery .so ive been watchin what i eat.and drinkin protein shakes.

I don't think that anyone buys that the two week diet is going to go perfectly. That said, the nutritionist at my group said that the two week thing is for 1) to see if we are compliant and 2) to help shrink the liver. These are both important. I missed my surgery goal weight by one pound and ate a fatty meal four days before. I was terrified they would cancel the surgery, but they didn't. They just laughed and said I was being a little overworried.

I am on Day 4 of the liquid diet..and down 6 lbs. My doctor wants us to do it for compliance and to shrink the liver...will make it easier to see things when doing the surgery. The only problem I am having is my sugars I am diabetic..so playing with my insulin (according to the doctor). So had to get some glucose tablets when or if my sugar goes low. Better then turning to food. My date is March 20th. You WILL and CAN do this. Hugs, Dori

My doctor does not require it, just a low calorie and low fat diet. He says that some require it for practice and for the liver stuff, but he sees no benefit, and it makes the patients less ready in the head. Kind of like they are already down from trying to stay on a liquid diet and then knowing they have to do it after too. He also says some doctors use it to avoid "last meal syndrome" Which I have bad. I keep thinking, this may be the last time I can eat this, and I know it's bad, but oh it's so tempting. Anyway, I am part of the St. Patricks day group having surgery on the 17th. Getting excited and nervous all at the the same time. Lorraine

I had to follow a low fat diet for 2 weeks pre-op. I did fairly well with this and had already been trying to follow the type of diet I will be on much later. Most of the time I did well but a few times I had to give in to the "last Supper" syndrome. I was "bad" but satisfied. Not a good example for myself but knew that after the surgery I could follow whatever was thrown my way......Pat

Thanks for the support, this 2 week diet has me questioning everything.... should i have the surgery, what happens if something goes wrong, what if i regret this...... this is not like a bad haircut where my hair will grow back Please pray for me to continue to have the strength to go thru with this. I have waited for so long to get this done. I am finally approved (insurance wise), I really want it, I think it is just the jitters!

I think the questioning and fears are normal. I am going through the same thing. That panic comes before anything that will change your life. I know I also worried when I was pregnant with my first child about what kind of mom I would be. Heck I even questioned it on my fourth child, but that was cause he had lots of problems stemming from being adopted at an older age. I remember when I turned in the key to my apartment right before getting married, I had a moment of panic. Of course I panic everytime I leave a hotel room, convinced I am forgetting something, LOL. I think it's normal to get nervous when you are doing something that will change your life. This will change us, we won't be able to eat the way we used to. We won't be able to celebrate with something fattening, we won't be able to drown our sorrows in a tub of ice cream. We are starting new. It's going to be scary, but we will get through it. It seems like we have a pretty good group here going through it together! We can get through this! Lorraine

It is perfectly normal to question everything. I was also on that 2 week diet and I think between my body wondering what the heck I am doing and the caffeine withdrawal, I got very whimpy and even called to cancel my surgery 5 days before my date. Luckily, the person on the other end gave me courage and reminded me how I had worked up to this point for a year and have shown my committment to stick with it. I am now 4 weeks post-op and although its definately been a challenge, I am glad I found the courage to go through with it. I am sure I would be kicking myself in the hiney right now wondering how much weight I would be down by now if I hadn't gone through with it. Currently I have lost 24 pounds and people are beginning to see the change. Be strong, pray, and remember how long you have been working for this. Good luck dear!
