I will be finished with my 6 month pre op diet in Feb. I have an appointment with the surgeon on the 22 of Feb. I am so eager to have this surgery. However, I am a little stressed with it aswell. I know that I need to have this done cause I have tried for 9 years to get this stubborn weight off by myself and its always the same thing. Lose the weight then turn around and gain it right back. There is only one thing that I am worried about with the lap-band and that is the fact of a blood clot. Can anyone out there help to ease my fears with this so I feel a little more at ease with having this done?

I am having rny but to avoid a blood clot you need to move. Some lap band patients get sent home the same day as the surgery. If your doctor does that make sure once you are home you keep getting up and walking around. That keeps the blood circulating in your legs and helps avoid blood clots. If you still feel concerned make sure they let you know what the symptoms are so you identify a potential problme before it gets bad. Peggy

Hi Stacy, A blood clot is a risk of surgery, period. And Peggy is dead on about the need to move. My understanding is that within a couple hours of the recovery room, they will have us walking the hallways. LOL, maybe we should bring our running shoes to the hospital! Janice

I never thought about blood clots. My main concern is a blood transfusion. With having a lap band surgery have you ever heard of anyone having to have a transfusion?
