Topic: RE: Mere hours to go!
Prayers going up for you!! You should be just about finished surgery by now I think (9 am EDT)?
I'm so glad things went smoothly for you, I wish everyone could have that experience. For those that don't get it smooth and easy.... don't give up... we DO still succeed. I'm proof of that sure 'nuff!!
Topic: RE: Home from the hospital
Lisa,
I got home from hospital 3/9 and I'm with you on the "clueless, now what?" bench. I think though that the best places to get advice are the state boards (if yours is active) and if not, pick a nearby state board and jump in
I found the Texas board very alive (aka TMB) and I've been trying to keep the Louisiana board more active (I'm in Louisiana temporarily for my surgery, but live in Texas full time post Katrina).
Anyway, the longer term postops probably can give better advice than me, I'm in your same shoes What did you get done, and where?
I had Lap RNY proximal by Dr Richardson in New Orleans, on 3/7/07
Topic: RE: Starting a Support Group
It's actually not as difficult as people say. I started one in New Orleans (pre Katrina) named OHLA and moved it to Baton Rouge when I moved there temporarily (post Katrina). When I moved to Dallas/Fort Worth area, there are already so many support groups that we've had a difficult time getting members, but I'm hoping to change that with summer coming But OH-DFW is still definitely alive
For more info go to: http://www.obesityhelp.com/ohsupportgroups/
You can find the Support Group Leader application and more info in that area.

Topic: Surgery Mar. 8th A new me emerging!!
Had my surgery around 12pm on Mar. 8th and came home around 1pm Mar. 9th.
Felt pretty good for first day, but now 2 days later a little tired and sore.
I'm sipping sipping sipping, walking, walking, walking and trying to get my rest. My temp. goes up during night to around 99.7, than comes back down. Wounds look good tho.
I had proximal gasric bypass and gall bladder removal all done laproscopic. Miracle what they can do these days.
I wish all the newbies success and just know it's a start to a new beginning.
My surgeon was Dr. Oh in Wa. state and he's greeeeeeeat!!!
Take care,
Kathy

Deb,
Congrats on your Date! I am scheduled for March 13th, and my wife, Jodell is scheduled for March 27th. We'd love to be your friends as well. There's alot of us here that are going to be going through the processes in the same time periods.
Topic: RE: SICK - SURGERY 3/20 - WORRIED
If you're already feeling this much better, I help but think you can kick this thing before the 20th. Maybe trying a humidifier and some vaporub can help you with with the after effects.
As for me, being this close to surgery is kind of a mixed bag. I am excited, but also a little nervous. As of right now, I am mostly just excited, and at peace with my decision to move forward. I am trying not to think about how hard it is going to be to adjust to life after surgery.
Best of luck,
Dave
