THINNING HAIR?
Hey what do you think about cutting your hair when it is getting so thin? I have real curly hair it's about to my shoulders and falling out by the hand fulls. I went to a support meeting last night and was very happy to find out it is not falling out from what is happening right now it is falling out because of what has already happened the sugery the anasteta the rapid weight loss the stress of y body for over the past months and they actually showed me where the new hair is already growing in so what do you think cut it short and let it all grow in together (my husband said no) but do you think it might not look so stringy? Help do I cut or not cut? Thanks shirley
I cut my hair shorter when it started falling out. It was halfway down my back, and now it just brushes my shoulders. Mine falls out so much that my husband has to clean out the shower drain about every other week. Otherwise it stops up the drain. Last time he had to look at it twice because the first time he thought the hair was metal (that is how thick it was). My hair is so thin now. I don't think you should get it cut too short, specially if you have never had it that short before. But cutting it some may help the hair loss not seem so traumatic.
Ohhhh thinning hair! Mine was short to begin with but very thick. I usually didn't have to do much but let it dry and it would look full. But now....yikes! I have to mousse it up and use blow dryer to make it look like have hair! I am sooo not used to this!
Hubby is complaining about hair in the drains, on the furniture, on the back of car seats and he is always brushing it off my back and shoulders...it is worse then a dog! rofl.
I am taking Biotine and makeing sure I get all my protein plus....I hope it stops soon so the new growth will fill in.
I've been trying to let my hair grow out for over a year now. I had my surgery in March 07 and it's falling out SO BAD! I knew it was going to. It is coming out in huge handfulls every shower. All throughout the day. And covers my pillows at night. So far it doesn't actually look like it's thinning out. I am hoping my hair was thick enough in the beginning to lose alot and still look like a normal persons head of hair.My hair used to be at the base of my hair line but I just don't like it that short anymore. Now it's a little past my shoulders...I can put it in a pony tail. Of course now when I pull the pony tail holder out a handfull of hair comes with it. I am glad they prepare you for this or I'd think something awful was happening. If my hair gets too thin I will consider shopping it off and use some sort of hair products to spike it up or style it or something. I guess right now I am just trying to think positive!
Thanks guys well I went to work yesterday with the ? also and I got a spit reponce half say leave it alone for 2 more months and see and the other half say you'll look great in short hair but my hasband says I'll look like a man Now with no boobs and no hair I had to LOL he just can't handle all the stress I have been for the past 5 months I didn't know after 21 years that he would be this bad over his wife looking better I told him to tell his Dr today he needs depression med now! I used to be on it cause I was fat and didn't like myself, and now he needs it cause I am getting smaller and he don't like it ..... Weird hu? Okay thanks to all you marchers I am glad we have a great space and coversation going on now! bye for now until next time!
Okay, my hair is thinning also. I try not to even comb it (LOL). I am going to boost up my protein and start taking the Biotin also. I know a couple of people who had hair loss after the surgery and some of it came back after the weightloss process. My hair stylist also suggested that I use Nioxin products as a hair regimen and I am about to start that now. Well, it is good to know that I am not alone in this situation. I look at the hair and it is falling out by the root. I can only hope it stops soon.
It seems like a few people think that their hair will be thin forever. EVERYONE'S HAIR WILL COME BACK!!!! They should have told you all about it in your classes before surgery. Almost everyone's hair thins or at least has more hair fall out than "normal" between 3-6 months after surgery. It's from the shock of having our innards cut to pieces! The only thing you can do is try and eat your protein and wait it out. Your hair should start growing back considerably at around 9 months to a year out. Some peoples hair grows back quicker than others but everyone's grows back. Some people don't like it while it's thinning so they cut it. Most people had round faces and didn't want short hair until they lost their weight and didn't mind cutting it shorter. Some people's hair looks a bit funny with new hair growing in and the remaining long thin hair there too...it depends on what's going on with your hair. I've seen people who cut their hair and it looks alot better...and some it looked worse. Just remember it's temporary. Do what you think will make you feel better in the mean time. Right now I am not at the point to go a chopping...but I might. I'm just taking it as it goes...and right now it's all going to the floor or down the drain!!
I am a hairdresser and I can honestly say that the longer thinner hair is the thinner it looks. It is logical to think the longer then hair the thicker it will look, but it just isn't so. As long as you don't get it thinned out or "cropped" really short it will look much thicker and not be as tramatic when you see it falling out. Also, when it starts growing in those 1/2 inch long hairs will blend into 3 or 4 inch long hair a lot better than if you hair is 12 inches long. It will be a fun new look with your new body.
...And don't ask men-they will never say anything but long!
Nioxin shampoo will NOT make it thicker but it fluffs your hair and makes it look thicker too. I got myself a giant bottle of it to get me through this.
Slightly darker hair (not black) looks thicker and healthier too.
Make sure you use a thickening styling product too!
Change is GOOD! Have fun.

I have long, curly hair too. I cut off a few inches when it started to get thin, because it doesnt' knot up so severely when I wa**** if it is a little shorter. I don't have to tug on it so much to brush out the knots, if there are fewer knots. The good news is that the hair loss is slowing down about 3 months after it started. Hang in there. I promise you won't end up bald!!
