Peripheral Neurothopy
I am 18 weeks post -op today. Memorial day weekend i ended up in hospital with Cellulitis. before leaving hospital I started experience numbness in my legs.Right side could have been caused from Cellultis but not left side. Family doctor set up appointment with neurologist. Didn't get to see him till July 9th.They did a nerve study test that showed I had peripheral Neurothopy. He couldn't tell me why I had this. He ordered a glucous intollerance test. Not a test a gastric Bypass patient wants to take. Too much sugar made me sick it kept trying to come up. Was told if i threw up would have to start over. I did everything i could think of not to throw it up. fasting and first hour were normal hour three and for bloodsugar was 77 and 72. So I wasn't a diabetic.
Doc said that since test came back as not diabetic that I probably got peripheral Neurothopy as a side effect of bypass. My blood work was all in normal limits.
My question is is peripheral Neurothopy a side effect in some bariatric patients or is that just something doc is saying because he don't know why?
If is Side efect for some what can make less painful? I am on Cymbalta and I don't sleep much at nite. When I take it morning I am easily agitated throught out day.

Mary,
So sorry to hear you aren't feeling well. Unfortunately I know absolutely nothing about Peripheral Neurothopy, but from your description it sounds like no fun at all. I understand your fellings/frustrations about not feeling like Dr.'s really know what they're talking about, or wondering if they are just making something up to give you a "possible" answer.
I wish you the best as you work through this hardship.
