Had my surgery in march and I am down 83 lbs and 36 inches. The only problem is I don't want to eat and there are MANY things I can't eat. I get a sick to my stomach feeling after 2-3 bites. I am ok with soft foods, did have about 1.5 oz of a thin boneless pork chop tonight but most chicken and beef, lunch meat, tortillas, etc make me sick. I can eat the protein bars though. Anyone else have issues with food after 4 months?

Hi Donna. You are doing GREAT. I'm four months out also and am down 70 lbs. I love it. It's fun zipping up size 16 clothes!! I still can't eat anything made with ground beef and bread bothers me too. I can eat chicken, steak and lunchmeats but nothing with bread and if I have them in a wrap, then only about 2-3 bites. Eggs sometime bother me. Not all the time. Try to make sure anything you eat is moist. Maybe that will help. I love dipping my lunch meat in mustard. Goes down alot easier when its moist with something. Good luck.

Hi donna-- first of all, you are doing marvelous!! I decided pre-op that I was going to forever change what I put in my body, so I have given up red meat totally, and no longer eat any bread, pasta, noodles, rice, etc. These were my downfalls and I know for me, they just swell in my stomach!! So now I feel phenomenal, and I think there was something happening in me due to the yeast, because I no longer have mucous problems (sorry) in my nose or throat, and I have also rid myself of other breathing problems/allergies. I also eliminated sugar, (of course fruit has natural sugars, and that is okay) but I no longer eat anything that has added sugar (fructose, corn syrup, etc). So what do I eat--lots of fish, tuna, special k with added protein, yogurt, fat free yogurt cheese, eggs(never been a problem), hummus, ground turkey and lentils/beans. I have repeatedly tried chicken (with broth, sauces, etc. For moisture), but it refuses to go down, so I will try again in a few months. I occasionally eat deli turkey, but only in emergency situations. I don't like the extra sodium and fillers used to make it. Even though I buy the gourmet lite-low sodium type. So yes, I think being 4 months out, we still need to be careful, and listen to our bodies. I just figure, we are still healing and learning. But boy oh boy, isn't it grand!?!?!?!?!? Hugs and luck to you! Lora

I too have given up all bread except whole wheat totilias (I eat South Beach Wrap kits a lot and they have them in them but I don't eat the wrap as a wrap, I will eat the meat by itself then in a few hours, the tortilias, then in a few hours, the cheese, etc. they are only 250 calores). I also eat soups (I try to stay away from the high calorie and salt ones). I love wendy's chili (230 calories, carbs 23, fat 6.0) and Taco Bells Zesty Chicken Border Bowl. I order it without rice and with extra beans and I don't use the dressing that way it comes to, (370 calories, 43 carbs, 12 fat), I also order their pintos n cheese sometimes (160 calories, 19 carbs, and 6 fat). Those are my fast food standbys when they order out at work or when I get caught without food, which is very bad and I am getting bettr about it, I carry cheese sticks and protein bars now (snickers makes a low carb protein bar that is the bomb! but make sure you check the sugar grams as they make 3 or 4 different types and you want the one with the lowest). I try to stay under 10 grams of sugar in everything I eat, I got that tip from the book "Before and After" her website also has soft food recipes www.bariatriceating.com and I have some on my blog from her book and others, just type 'recipe" or "cook" in the search blog box at the top of my blog at www.luvsexytrstno1.blogspot.com Hope all of that helps you!

Thank you so much....very helpful. I try to focus on the weight loss and not what I can't eat. I am truly happy I have no cravings and don't miss the sweets at all!! I could have never done this without the surgery.

Sounds like you're doing pretty good. For me it's taken me a while to discover exactly which foods work well for me, and which don't. Sometimes certain combinations work better than others. You're primary goal was to lose weight and get more healthy. I'd stay try to stay away from what makes you sick, but at 4 months out don't be too scared to try new stuff! --Dave 350/237/205

I had tofu for the first time this past weekend. I was suprised i liked it. I like soybeans and soynuts. Dislike soy flour makes me sick just smelling it. I found some protien bars that I can eat that actually taste good. Things after surgery seem to have different taste now.

Wow good for you! I found out that after that initial sick feeling you know after the 2 or 3 bites and u feel like hurling, Well, I found that if you take your time and just wait a few minutes that you can eat some more, then a little more, before you know it 45 minutes has passed and you have eaten your meal. Try it. it really works! Down 100 pounds, had surgery March 2007. Good Luck, let me know how this works out for you! Kathy V.
