Eating Out

Alright Marchers... When you eat out, what types of food do you choose? I'm not allowed salads or carbs (other than from cooked veggies) yet, so eating out is kind of annoying and I'm looking for ideas. Typically I go for chicken fajitas, minus the refried beans, rice, and tortillas or some other type of grilled chicken. I've also been known to eat the insides of a black bean or chicken burro. I never thought I'd say this, but I'm getting a little burned out on Mexican food! So...lay it on me! What do ya eat when ya go out? Nicole

Dr just let me off bedrest and I am anxious to eat out! I would go somewhere where I could get baked or grilled fish. Grilled Shrimp. I can have grilled porkchops(lean) and he has just added beef into my diet so I could always order a lean cut of steak. Most restruants do have plain steamed veggies...and sweet potatos are in style now as well so choices are many! Of course there would be a take home box to go along with this because it would last me 2-3 meals.....what a cheap date with DH! I just can't wait....I hinted all day to DH but I ended up grilling pork chops and having seasoned Brocolli and Carrots with it. Good but it is always better when someone else makes it

I don't eat out much. But when I do, I ask for poached, baked or broiled tilapia or salmon. I tell them only in orange juice and lemon juice (no butter, etc or sauces). I get vegetable soup or a dry baked potato. I have had cooked veggies, with nothing on them and that's about it. I bring home more than I eat, but don't eat the leftovers anymore because they always give me the foamies! If there is salad--I give it away or bring home for DH. I haven't had salad yet. I have given up all sugar, white flour products (all bread, pasta, rice and noodles). And I gave up red meat. I don't order chicken, because it is one of those foods that I can't get down. I wish you luck!! Lora

I've been enjoying healthy sandwiches or soups when I eat out. Wendy's chilli sits well with me, and it is an occasional treat. Lately, I've been a little more daring with choices as long as protein is the center of the meal. Sometimes it's a good experience, and sometimes its not. For me, eating is about learning what my body does or doesn't do well with. I understand everyone's different, and tolerates different things though. --Dave 350/248/205

Thanks for all the recommendations! As I kinda suspected, ya'll are eating foods that aren't on my allowed list, so I can't take advantage of many of the yummy suggestions just yet. I went out to eat tonight and ate lettuce wraps sans the lettuce, rice noodles, and used a hint of the sauce to give it some flavor as I'm sure those sauces are loaded with sugar. I long for the days when I can eat a salad! Or beef! Or citrus fruits! Or carbs of any kind! Someday Thanks again! Nicole

I eat out all the time and it's always something with grilled chicken in it. Well, sometimes I can find a pork item on the menu that doesn't sound too fatty, but my usual standby is chicken. I also order ham and cheese omlets sometimes or scrambled eggs.

So far I've usually chosen chili or salad bar. Salad bars I like because you can get cheese, cottage cheese, a little chicken. Sometimes I'll just order a shrimp ****tail appetizer. Ruby Tuesdays has a killer white bean chili with shredded chicken. Friendly's had a meal of chicken with melted cheese on top. The best thing about eating out is the leftovers will last you many more meals so you don't have to feel like you wasted $$ by only having a few bites. Many restaurants will offer meats smothered with toppings you cannot tolerate, most of them don't mind if you say you want the meat with no toppings, it doesn't cause them any extra trouble to just not put them on.

My doc had us eating mashed potatoes very early on. So I usually order that...I only eat a few bite fulls. My in-laws were visiting for a week and had us eating out almost every meal. I got tired of mashed potatoes really quick so I just started bringing my own foods. I'd pull out my little cheese sticks and crackers. No one ever said anything. Christal

When eating out, I have a few standby choices. . Taco Bell, I eat the pinto's & cheese. . I always bring 3/4 of it home. I add mild sauce to it to make it pretty thin :). Ruby Tuesday's--the AWESOME white bean chili WEndy's--chili Mexican--I eat some beans. . . can't eat many of them, but add a little of the homemade salsa in it. Logan's I eat the chili Frisches--I eat the chili Places that have absolutely NOTHING for me--I'll tear off a tiny piece of DH's hamburger meat with cheese on it. . . I always carry protein bullets in my purse and car, so if I'm somewhere they have nothing I can eat, I'll order a water and pour my bullet in there. I don't eat any carbs. . whether it be veggies, potato's, fruit, bread, cereal, pasta. . . none of it. I just don't feel it's a healthy choice for me. . . :)
