I'm jealous of all you guys lol
Hi Everyone!!! I just found out there was a March surgery date board.
What a retard LOL That's great because I love to see how people are
progressing that had surgery around the same time as I did. But anyways,
I've notced you all can eat way more than me. ..... I had my surgery
on March 5th and I still can not eat any meat. I can't bring myself to eat
another bite of cottage cheese, or any kind of cheese for that matter.
I used to eat it all the time. I can eat carb control yogurt and soup.
That's about it. Talk about boring!!! But on the plus side I am down 80
LBS........Keep up the good work everyone, Dorean
Hey Dorean,
Don't feel so alone, I also find that a bunch of "Marchers" can eat wayyy more than I can, food variety-wise. The one food item that saves me which IS on my food list is chicken. I don't seem to have any trouble with it as long as it's moist and I chew it well. When I'm not in the mood to make it I get a breast or two from Boston Market and I'm set for a few meals. I also love eating edamame. I buy it frozen so it doesn't go bad and nuke in the microwave with a little water in the bowl I sprinkle some kosher salt or hot sauce on it, just enough to give it a kick, and that goes down okay. PLUS it's great on the protein. I stopped eating cottage cheese and eggs for a couple weeks because I was getting extremely sick of them. Today I ate chicken chili from a bbq place for lunch. I'm not allowed to eat tomatoes yet because of the acidity, but I picked out the beans and chunks of chicken and ate very little of the soupy part - it did the trick!. Dinner will be tuna salad with low-fat mayo, some chopped up pickles mixed in atop a lettuce cup.
What is on your approved list? Or is it that you're allowed to eat more variety but it doesn't agree with you? Regardless, congratulations on the awesome weight loss so far! I had my surgery on 3/7 and I'm right about where you are - down 85lbs. We rule! :D
Nicole
Thanks Nicole, I feel a little better. I am allowed to eat pretty much
whatever, actually my nut told me to try more of a variety.
Meat, any kind doesn't sit well. I tried turkey deli meat today thinking
that might go down ok, after a couple bites my tummy let me know
it had enough LOL.... I'm just so fed up with it, so tonight I BBQ chicken,
noodles and corn. I didn't want to try the chicken, but I did have a few
bites of the other stuff. Maybe we are only able to just eat a few bites
and that be it. Maybe I'm thinkin I should be eating more bites. Does
that make sense? How much can you eat at one sitting? I know the time
will come when I can maybe eat whatever I want, so I'm trying
not to bug out too much. 85 is great. Are you excercising? I wasn't, than
about a week ago I started walking for 30 min a night. Hey can I add you as
a friend? Since we are similar in weight loss date and how much we have lost.
Good luck to you..........Dorean
Hey, ya absolutely - I just added you too.
I'm really bad about measuring my food, but I'd say I eat about a large handful of food, usually less. I'm walking a few nights a week, but it kinda varies with what I have going on that particular week. I'm not doing weights like I'm supposed to, but I just bought a condo at a place that has a small (and rarely used) gym literally like...15 steps away from my front door. Sooo....hopefully I'll get on that very soon! Deli meats in general don't sit well with me and pre-op they gave me gas anyway. I try to eat as many bites as I can because I'd love to stop drinking my protein supplements. Soon, I hope!
I know what you mean, kind of. I can only have 3oz of food 3x a day (2oz of protein 1oz of fruit or veggie) My Nut wants my extra protein to come from Protein Shakes. I wish I could try to get a food snack instead of liquid.
3oz fills me up at the time but I am starting to get hungry about half way between meals and the shake just doesn't cut it!
It seems like some folks can have a lot more then that! I have a wide variety of foods I can eat but I stick with chicken, turkey, tuna, egg salad, and fish. I haven't tried beef or pork yet.....I think I will wait awhile for that.
Have you tried beans? Refried....Chili Beans....Navy Beans they are high in protein and fiber.
Good Luck finding something that settles.
Hi there,
I had my surgery March 5th here in Alaska. I have lost 86 pounds.. which is great.. BUT.. I am now at this stand still. I know you aren't supposed to dwell, but man oh man. I haven't lost an ounce in like 2 weeks!
I also am in the same boat as you guys.. I can literally only have maybe 3 bites at a meal.. and it's never meat. I can't handle hardly anything. The thought of pasta makes me so sick, as it has made me throw up in the past. I know for a fact I am not getting enough protein. I do drink Sugar Free Mocha Ice Rages with 20 grams of Protein powder I have them put in for me. I have a couple of those a day, but I am getting so tired of my dull diet. I can do a few bites of refried beans and things, but anymore than those few bites, and I'm ready to run to the bathroom and throw up.
I sit and read how people can eat this and that without any problems, and I get so jealous. What I would give to eat a small portion of chicken again !! I miss meat like you wouldn't believe. I have tried the deli meats, but they make me ill as well. I am honestly running out of things to eat it feels like. Sort of a yucky feeling, but I suppose I will keep trucking along.. Congrats to you all!
The tough thing about support is that it is tough not to compare your personal results to the results of others. For example, because I'm male, it's more likely that I'll lose weight quicker than my female counterparts. Also, certain types of surgeries and body types react differently post surgery. Not to mention we all had our own personal set of "problems" whether mental/physical/etc, that we have to deal with post surgery. The good news is that you might be surprised by how many people are in the same boat as you. They may be "lurkers" whose posts we never see.
If you are still concerned about not being able to eat solids such as chicken, I would touch base with your doctor to determine what he thinks. He may want to do some tests, or may let you know that your symptoms are not uncommon for being 3 months out, and want to give you more time.
Thanks,
Dave
Hi Everyone,,First time Here In MArch Forum, Was Wondering What Am I Doing Wrong? your posts say 80 and 85 lbs down? My Wls Was 3/19/07 and I have lost only 55 lbs,,so what am i doing wrong,,i play volleyball 2X a Week At 2 hours at each session and walk 2X a week for 30 min. each time and probably consuming about 1,000 calories a day. My BMI was at 40.7 is this about normal for me? Am i Suppose to be exercising more to get a bigger result????? I am Happy but cant help but think i could be happier. I have cheated just a little, not enough to count on my fingers,so that cant be that much of a big deal.I was still keeping under 40g. of fat per day. Some days I keep at 10g of fat per day. Please advice me..Thanks a Bunch.......Wendy
Minds Are Like Parachutes-They Function Only When Open
Hi Wendy...I wouldn't worry. How much did you weigh before WLS.
I was 295, so I wasn't a light weight, so I think I lost more at first.
I didn't lose any pre-op. I was hardly eating much up till about 2 weeks
ago. I had gotten so dizzy in the evening and felt like I was going to
pass out. I realized I only had two protein shakes all day. I felt maybe
I wasn't getting enough calories, so I have been working on that.
I feel I can eat alot more variety now and in a way that scares me.
Sometimes I wanna eat all day. I don't exercise, only walk about a
mile everynight. I'm so bad about that. I also have an over active
thyroid, my DR wants to keep it elevated a little due to my thyroid
cancer I had 3 yrs. ago. I really think that makes a differance also.
But let me say lately I have slowed down. I think I am going
through my first plateau. It has been weeks since I have lost a single
pound. So I think in the end everyone averages about the same.
Funny how I was worried I was losing to fast, now I'm worrying about
not losing anymore. Good luck to you. Also I was told when you
start exercising, you either gain or don't lose anything because
your muscles are drawing in water. So, maybe here soon you
will start seeing bigger results.....Dorean
Hi Wendy,
Today is my first day posting here as well. .. I usually post at a different website.
ANYWHO. . . . You asked what you might be doing wrong. . probably nothing. Our bodies work at different speeds in losing the weight. You will be at the same place as every one else in 2 years time :). That is the important thing.
However, I saw you get about 1,000 calories a day. I don't get anywhere near that. . . I eat between 400 and 550 a day. That includes my liquid protein--which I drink mostly :).
If you feel you are having problems, you could easily try a liquid protein train for a couple days. That is basically drinking protein drinks for a few days. I am actually doing that right now. I started today and I'm hoping to do 3-4 days. I'll get there and see how I do from that. I haven't stalled yet, but I noticed myself just blah, so I wanted to shake it up a bit.
My favorites are protein bullets (42g protein each), elite chocolate mint, elite chocolate. . . those are what I drink right now. Before surgery, I loved some of the nectars--green apple, carribbean cooler, twisted cherry, but right now, they are too much for me, so I stick to some of the other stuff.
Just an idea to beat that plateau you might be on. . . plus, it also reinergerizes your body and helps detox you of all the carbs and such. It's a great idea :).
