hello, i been reading the message board for a while, but i've never posted. i had surgery on 03/19, i've lost 40 lbs, and compared to you guys doesn't seem like a lot. I am eating pretty normal, just in small, small portions and only stuff that i can tolerate. i was just wondering what u guys are eating? I feel like i'm sabotaging myself. don't u think i'm a little behind?
Hey Arneisha,
As hard as it is, try not to compare your weight loss to others'. Everyone loses at a different rate! You're losing at a little over 4 pounds a week - that's marvelous! My average is 5 lbs a week, including a plateau I hit for about a week. As long as you stick to the food choices recommended by your doctor's office, you'll be fine. But you asked what we're eating, so I'll share...
Edamame (I eat about a handful, warmed up with kosher salt sprinkled on top)
Chicken Fajitas (Sometimes I eat out, sometimes I make 'em at home)
Chicken, Edamame, & Veggies with low fat, low sugar stir fry sauce.
Apple & low sugar, low fat peanut butter
Small handful of cashews with a meal
Cottage Cheese with a non-citrus fruit (I can't have citrus yet)
Egg (made any way possible) with veggies and sometimes cheese
Feta cheese seems to give almost anything a good KICK!
I'm not allowed tomatoes yet because of their acidity, but sometimes I'll add a tiny bit of hot sauce to a dish to give it some flavor
Herbs and spices have saved me - get a few good ones and you'll be set! Good luck!
Nicole
I eat just about anything.
Usually, breakfast is 4 oz low fat cottage cheese with a slice or two of no sugar added peaches.
Lunch, 3 ounces canned chicken with celery and low fat mayo. Maybe a couple raw veggies.
Snack, protien shake
Dinner, some kind of meat, chicken, turkey, pork, beef, seafood and a veggie. Sometimes a couple spoons of potatoes, or brown rice.
I have only lost 38, so you have me beat. But, I have not gotten sick or anything stuck. So, I will take a slower loss for not being sick.
Continued success,
Wanda
Hi...I had surgery on 3/27 and I've lost 42 pounds so i think we're all hovering around the same numbers except for the few who are way above or below. Sometimes I think it has to do with your initial weight. If you started at 400 pounds you're going to lose more quickly than someone who started at 300 pounds. don't fret...just keep doing what you're doing and keep the protein and fluids up.
Take care!
Sadie
I eat almost only protein. I avoid eating bread and potatoes, no more fried foods, no more beef (yet, can't tolerate)... If your protein is not enough, or your water is not enough, your weight loss will SLOW DOWN dramatically.
So lots of water, lots of protein, and lots of exercise are the key ingredients.
Different things I eat, and like:
triscuit crackers
South Beach protein bars (19 g of protein)
New whey protein shots (42 g of protein in 3 oz.)
various soups
String cheese (colby jack and peper jack varieties)
Sliced deli meat (especially low fat turkey breast)
Home-made salsa with corn chips
I have been recently using fitday.com free calorie calculator and activity calculator to track what I'm eating, and make sure I get in all of my vitamins, protein, and water. I had my surgery 3-13, and over the last week or so I've ramped up my exercise and started weight lifting again.
I think you're probably doing great, but not giving yourself enough credit. My wife, Jodell has that problem (3-27 surgery and 45 lbs lost).
