Major issues with burping and bloating

I am having some major issues with burping and bloating. My stomach is stretched out even though the rest of me has lost weight. I can't figure out what it is that is causing this to happen, or if it is a problem with the surgery itself. Food today: 1 protein bullet water (non carbonated) slices of chicken cottage cheese some cream cheese spread on the chicken Could it be the cottage cheese? Is there lactose in it and maybe that is causing the huge belly bloating? Any ideas or advice? I am still in Brazil (surgery date for DS was 3/12/07)

Amy, I am no Dr., so all I can give you is my personal experience. My stomach is actually larger on my right side than my left. So much so that my bb is off center by about 4 inches (you notice it if I stand up straight and face you). I asked my surgeon about this at my one month appointment and his response was that it was normal. As your body begins to consume the fat stores it does not necessarily care about symetry. Eventually everything will even out. In my case, I lost a lot of weight in my chest, arms, and legs right out of the gate. This left me looking rather deflated but with a big belly. The more I work out and the more weight I lose, the more I am seeing the stomach start to follow along. But it is still where most of my weight is. And it is still lopsided. As for the burping...I do much more of that, along with passing gas, then I ever used to. Again, probably a product of the new diet and the new plumbing. Hope that helps! Dave

I was told the burping was normal -- i am burping so much my kids think its really funny -- and I am not sure what you mean my bloating. My stomach is all lumpy and I couldn't tell a bloat if I tried. But you don't have any pressure, do you? I know I was told the pressure was because of too fast eating, etc. I do have to say you are eating better than I am. I am living on cheese. I hope that helps, however, hopefully someone else will add something to help you out as well. Madison

My brother has had this as well and he is 9 months out. His is worse than mine. First...cottage cheese does have lactose in it...don't think that would cause a problem though. Chances are it is the new plumbing. my dr. prescribed a pepcid a day for potential ulcers and I rarely have problems. My brother started taking these and his has gotten a ton better...maybe this will help you too!!!! Rita

Hi everyone--thanks for the responses. I think I have figured out for certain that I am lactose intolerant. Cutting out the cottage cheese has improved things dramatically. For a while there I thought I might poof up and rise like a balloon. My diet now looks like this: 2 soy milk and Unjury protein powder shakes some sort of meat and vegetable stew WATER Vitamins So far this has really helped the bloat factor. Hopefully it will soon help the weight loss plateau as well.
