today again tried to eat...and threw up everything including the liquid protein tube.. frig. I tried some plain grilled chicken breast -chopped in very small pieces..and instantly got pain in my chest --like someone was standing on it..and fevered..sweaty...light headed...then..ill. I had to come home from work. I am so exasberated. I called the nutritionist at BARIX the clinic where I had the surgery..and left a message...anyone else have this? what the hell is wrong..I know others are eating normal food almost by 5 weeks out. frustrated and sad Vivian

Try letting your doctor know what is going on are you throwing up everything everytime?

If you are throwing up everything, you might have a stricture. Or it may be that the chicken was just too dry. I mix my chicken with a little light mayonaise, some dill pickle relish, and finely chopped scallion to help it go down easier. Are you chewing until it is the consistency of puree? If not, try chewing longer or actually puree it with some 98% fat free broth. Or are you taking 10 minutes per ounce to eat? I have gotten sick when I eat oo quickly. Also make sure that you haven't had anything to drink at least 15 minutes before you begin eating and then wait at least 30 minutes after you eat before drinking anything. That way you know your stomach is completely empty when you start to eat so there is plenty of room for the food. I hope you figure out what the problem is. It seems like you are miserable, and I am sorry for that! Good Luck, Robin

I have had the exact same problems but with foods that are softer than chicken - haven't had that yet. Most of the meats and thick foods I have tried have made me throw up, and the nurse told me that my pouch is probably still healing and isn't ready for those yet. Also, moisture seems to be a big factor, so I always have to make sure whatever I am eating is really moist with something sprayed on it, mixed with it or prepared. Also, I still have to puree chili when I eat it since it gets stuck in my throat, so make sure you still do that or take 30 chews of every bite of food. Whenever you vomit, go back to liquids for a day or so to let your pouch recover and then start working in soft foods again. I know how tempting it is to do what others are doing and push the limits, but you have to listen to your body and always take a few hours to rest and then go back on liquids after vomiting. You just have to take it more slowly like me, and since I really went back to basics I feel much better. Try it and see what happens. If you are vomiting up everything, then it could be a stricture, so you'll have to think about what's happenign and determine if you need to see the doctor. Good luck! Sherry

Vivan, I am sorry you are going through this. I hope it is resolved soon. I guess I am one of the lucky ones. I eat whatever I want, chicken, turkey, hamburger, pork, just about anything and have had no problems, nothing makes me sick and nothing has gotten stuck. I eat 4 ounces at a time and I am supposed to eat that six times a day. I usually only eat four times though. Maybe this is the reason I am losing so slowly. I have lost only 24 pounds so far. Feel better, Wanda

did you try just one bite? maybe you're trying to eat too much too fast. one of the interesting things i've learned in the past few weeks is recognizing the very first feeling of fullness and then stopping. i (we) used to be able to easily push past that and ignore it with no harm done (except for gaining weight). now if i push past it, blehhhh. eat one bite and see how you feel. if that's ok after a few minutes, eat one more. stop at the first twinge of fullness. even if the fork is already half-way to your mouth with the next bite. i think it's something we have to learn. i won't speak for everyone, but i definitely never recognized the first signs of real hunger and reall fullness before. i'm 6 weeks out tomorrow and i still have a pretty limited range. don't pu****

Also use a baby spoon when you eat - it helps with eating smaller portions and more slowly. Chew chew and chew some more. But I would definately let your doctor know you're having such problems. --Lori

I'm with you totally on this I do the same thing. I've tried everything with food and it all makes me sick and throw up. I'm going in on Monday A.M. and getting my esophogus stretched and the opening to my stomach. I'm sure that is your problem because I've had this same problem for about 3 weeks now. So I know exactly how you feel whatever I tried made me so sick and I would wait the 30 minutes b/4 and eat slowly and chew chew chew and it didn't help. I have been reading blogs of people that had this surgery either b/4 I did or after me and they are eating way more item than I can. I was even to the point where I wanted a reversal. I will let you know next week if it helped but please get ahold of your DR. soon. Best of luck and if you need anything please let me know.. Robin

Hello Vivian, I am so glad I am not the only one going through this. I don't wish this on anyone but I am just glad to know I am not crazy. I had been doing fine and then I added in meats and more solid food and I started having problems. I called the nutritionist and she had me call the doctors nurse because she thinks I have formed scar tissue in my stoma. They say it's an easy fix, just go in and they give you the forget everything drugs and then do an endoscocpy. Bing bang done and you are eating solids that night. I hope it works. I have gone back to just soups and drinks. I also can't do plain water, crazy huh, I sure thought so, then I called and they said some people can't do plain water. It was causing my stomach to spasm, hot, warm, cold, it didn't matter. I have heard that the stoma issue is fairly common so don't think you did anything wrong. I was relieved to finally see someone else post about this because I was looking for the last two weeks and nothing. I did find the positive in it, when someone with a tiny stomach throws up it is over really fast! Let me know what they do for you, I think they are going to do the scope on me Tuesday. Take care, Kim
