weird pain

I am not sure if what I am experiencing is a normal thing or not. Last night, I tried aViactive chewable calcium. I chewed and chewed and chewed it as it was quite gummy. This morning when I woke up, I have a pain in my left midsection, not like the pain from the surgery, but almost like a blocked feeling that gets worse sometimes. I had my surgery on 3/12. The more I moved around, the better it got, but now that I am at work and am sitting, it comes and goes. I am drinking some hot tea to see if that will help and so far it has...has anyone else had this type of pain I am lamely describing?

sounds like gas--try gasx. if the pain continues or gets worse--call your doctor. even after a yr out I have to make sure I take my vits on an empty stomach--they seem to just sit in my belly

Hi Georgeanne, It is probably gas. My nutritionist told us not to use the Viactive or any form of calcium carbonate because of the gas issues. I actually use Citracal Creamy Bites. It is calcium citrate. It also is absorbed better than the calcium carbonate. Walking and sipping fluids will help with gas. If it continues you may want to give your Dr. a call just to make sure. Hope things feel better soon. Dave

Hi Dave, I tried Citracal creamy bites and I dumped on them. You don't have any trouble with them though? I was really surprised that I did. Maybe later on I won't. Looks like you are doing great! Keep it up! ~Robin

I have had the EXACT thing you are describing and in fact went and had a cat scan. The Dr. said nothing was wrong...sometimes your new pouch gets inflamed and hurts even up to a few months after surgery. That is what they told me. They said to drink something hot (just as you are doing) and also to eat some ice chips or popsicles because it helps. I think it was a combination for gas and this for me. It went away after about two to three days. If it gets worse though and is sharp and jabbing I would just call your surgeon's office. They will tell you if they want you to come in or not!! Rita

Georgeanne, I'm sorry you're in such pain. I had some pain like this too - it's getting better. I asked my Dr. about it because at times I was about to have someone take me to the ER because it was getting so bad. He said that it was muscle spasms from the abdominal wall and your digestive tract being disrupted. He gave me more tylenol w/codine and some valium to help -- it did and I'm so thankful that most of them are gone. At least it's not as bad as it was. I hope all gets better. -Lori

Hi Georgeanne, I have the same thing. My surgeon said that it was due to a big suture that is still healing. I had been without pain for a while then it just came out of nowhere! He told me just to take my pain meds as needed and rest when it is bothering me. Hope you feel better soon. Janie 3/19/07
