burping and hiccups?
My surgeon explained it to me this way....the acid producing cells are mostly lower down in our bypassed stomachs. Occaisionally some people have a few acid producing cells still left in our pouches because they were higher up in our stomachs before surgery. Some doctors routinely put their patients on Prevacid to protect the pouch from ulcers....not all doctors do this, though.
The burp/hiccup/stomach noise thing....yep I have it too. I think I burp so much because I am swallowing air, and there just isn't any room for it any more. So it comes back out. I do have one friend who is 4 or 5 months out who says the stomach noise thing finally went away.....don't know if it goes away eventually for everybody, though.
My surgeon explained it this way...
When we moved around your insides, it involves touching/moving the diaphragm and irritating the diaphragm causes hiccups. The burping is probably from swallowing too much air when drinking, take smaller sips.
I had hiccups for 6 days postop, but then it went away. I still get burping but usually only when I don't drink properly.

I just switched to Pepcid Complete since it's chewable. I find that it is helping me. What I am having a problem with is being able to drink a whole protein shake. I found two that I can tolerate 50 gram slam and Muscle Milk. I do get the burps but not as much as I did in the beginning but I figured out that when it is continual it is because I have ate too fast.
