burping and hiccups?

Hey everyone. I have survived surgery and have been home since saturday. Everyday I feel better and I am no longer on the heavy meds. Well, I take a 1/2 dose about once a day if I need board. I have been taking in 1 or 2 shakes with added protein powder, almost a whole Isopure, and as much water as I can take, some chicken broth or jello. The PROBLEM is I don't have much trouble with it going down. .. but a few seconds later I have small burps and now for the first time I have the hiccups! Am I consuming it too fast? I can't imagine getting in everything I need having to wait 15 minutes between sips. Should I be taking Prilosec every morning or tums or Gas X? any ideas? Becky H. 238/232/130

I wish I could answer your question, but I honestly don't know. It seems to me that since my surgery on March 21st, I am getting the hiccups and burp a lot more. It sounds like you are doing very well! I hope you have much success! I also hope somone has a good answer to your question. You've got me curious now! Good Luck, Robin

I also had my rny on 3/29. My doctor has me taking 2 pepcid per day - one in morning and one at night. I occasionally burp after consuming food, but nothing unbearable. No hiccups here.

I'm with Diana! My dr. has me taking two pepcid as well and I haven't had much problem with gas or hiccups..my brother who had surgery in august never took the pepcid and has a HORRIBLE time..he started on pepcid two days ago and it is already doing better for him! Rita

My co-worker's brother had the surgery done a few years ago, and when visiting me a week or so ago, I started burping, she told me to get used to that, it doesn't go away!! I have only had one bought of hiccups so far, but seem to burp for about 15-20 minutes after I eat anything. I had my surgery on 3/12....I guess my answer for you is just get used to saying 'excuse me'!!!

Welcome Home. I had surgery on March 19th. I don't take medicine for it because I don't have those problems. HOWEVER, my stomach makes such loud obvious noises that the dog even ****s her ears! I'm thinking of taking up the harmonica to drown out the noise and make it less conspicuous. Take Care Diane

That's funny - mine does to. It starts the minute I start eating something and doesn't stop for quite sometime. It cracks me up! I wonder if it will always do that. , Robin

Thank you all for helping me to know that the stomach noise is normal. I was beginning to think they messed something up in there.

yeah, the stomach noise is pretty hilarious at times. My mom is here helping me, and she doesn't hear very well. But if she is close to me and my stomach 'goes off' she thinks it's the dog growling and says, "Madeline be quiet!".. my daughter and I just laugh!
