Stalls are normal, but this too shall pass.

Unfortunately they are a normal part of the process of converting to less fat and more muscle. You can follow your surgeon's instructions PRECISELY and you will still very very likely hit a stall at some point. It's normal. After years of researching this I knew it, I even expected it to hit me around the 4 week (or 40 lbs) mark, since that is the pattern I had noticed.... but I reacted just the same as others when I hit my stall. If you're before week 2, you probably are just still holding onto some of the fluids you got during and after procedure... just hang in there. Some people hit it in week 2, and some don't hit till week 5, but everyone that I've seen or talked to hits a stall. The thing to remember is that stalling your weight loss accomplishes a few things... your body is struggling to recover from what it perceives as starvation... it will suddenly drop your calorie requirements and slow the weight loss, this is a self protection method... it will also attempt to shift the weight loss by "reorganizing" a bit in the size department... many people will see weight loss alternate with inches lost. Most times the only thing the body needs to combat a stall is a little variety... a change in the type of exercise, an increase in water, a "return to basics" for those who aren't choosing the best foods, or remembering the 30 minute rule (for those who are eating and drinking together). I know it was just as upsetting to me when it happened, but the scale DOES start to move again, we just have to hang on and be patient... it will pick up again... don't stress over it... just work your plan and the rest will happen I stalled just 3 lbs before my first goal... INFURIATING... and then didn't lose any more lbs for 8 days!! Then I dropped 2 lbs.... only 1 more lb to go till my first goal is achieved!!

Thanks for the pep talk and motivation! I needed that! I don't know if I have stalled already and am over it or still have one to come. My weight loss was really slow for the last week and then 1 lb Sunday, not a thing Monday and then 2lbs last night. For a week it went 1.2 then .8 then .6 for a couple days and then .2 and then the bigger drops. I guess I'll just have to see what happens. I hope that was my stall. Sherry

The most common things that the "grads" (those with 1 yr + since surgery) respond with is that people who stall can sometimes break the plateau with increasing water and/or increasing protein... I started increasing the water... and I'm moving again

Hi Kat, I've been at a stall for 6 days now. I'm in my 3rd week. Ever since I started on real food, the scales haven't moved. I'm keeping track of my food on Fitday. I am amazed at how much I'm eating and staying within my calories. Trying to get 80 gms of protein in is a chore since I don't have an appetite but I am so grateful for this surgery. I know it'll come off eventually! Thanks for the explanation! Janie
